September 30, 201312 yr Commercial Member When is the correct time to arm the F/D during pre departure? Depends on the airline SOP. In order to satisfy turning them on pre-departure, any time from when the aircraft is powered to the point where you're sitting short of the runway is fine. I turn mine on as part of my pre-start setup. Kyle Rodgers
September 30, 201312 yr Author Oh ok.. because I recently had a sitiuation where the A/P would not engage after lift off. I had to switch both F/D's off and on and then it would arm. I thought maybe I was arming the F/D's too early at the gate before p/s.... Maniac59 Mark Harris ESA1178 Senior Captain http://www.eurostar-aviation.ch/

Were your controls centered? Steve Caffey
September 30, 201312 yr Author Hi Steven. Yes noth VNAV & LNAV were armed and controls centered before attempting to arm the A/P. Maniac Mark Harris ESA1178 Senior Captain http://www.eurostar-aviation.ch/
