October 20, 201312 yr Author It just seem pretty impossible to change the permissions. Just spent a good hour trying to fix it. The Administrator account doesn't seem to have full control. J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
October 20, 201312 yr The well known and researched UiAutomation core dll. is very specific to right clicking on menus and very easy to replicate if its an issue with your setup. There are two versions out there the SP1 v16368 and SP1 v18000. I and many others had the v16386 installed with no issues. After my last build it wouldn't work and I installed v18000 which solved the issue. Others are running FSX without the said dll file at all in their fsx directory and are not seeing an issue. It seems that this is very specific depending on each individual hardware and software setup. There are about as many sloppy Windows instals out there as botched FSX instals. PMDG uses Microsoft Visuals C+++2008 (or 2005) Redistributables package to run its software and is the only fsx developer to do so as far as I know. Make sure its up to date and not corrupted. If you do get to the Oh %$%^$*!! I guess I'm re-installing FSX moment, Be sure to instal it in its own file folder created by yourself, not the default program/files/x86 one suggested by the installer. This will give you full control over your windows files. Windows will still attempt to be a nanny, even with Windows defender and all UAC controls switched off if installed in the default location. Good luck and regards.
October 20, 201312 yr Author I had a flight tonight. I did try a couple of other things. First I set the windows appearance to Performance, so that the windows look very basic. I tried also increasing the memory page file from 24000k to 50000k. (not sure if this is recommended) It may of been a fluke but everything ran like a dream. And I seemed to get though a flight with AS2012, VATSIM using FSINN, and EZYDOK and FS2Crew. So quite a heavy setup. I would reserve judgment. I would still like to know a bit more about permissions, it looks like a bit of a learning curve. J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
October 21, 201312 yr Commercial Member I would still like to know a bit more about permissions, it looks like a bit of a learning curve. This is something I just repost each time since it's so much of an issue: To do this, navigate to the Microsoft Games folder on your drive and:Right click on the Flight Simulator X folder:Select PropertiesSelect the Security tab at the topClick on the Users account in the Group boxIn the Permissions box, check the box Full ControlClick OKThis grants you (a User - Tron reference?) and the programs you use in that folder admin rights to the folder. Essentially, what is happening is the computer is writing the changes (your key assignments) to a 'ghost' (Compatibility Files) folder, which the PMDG Options panel ignores the next time you run it. Using admin rights writes those changes to the actual file, not a file in a 'ghost' folder. As a quick note, if you have problems with any other program (especially when it comes to settings not saving, etc), you should grant admin rights to the program's location first before trying other things. UAC has its place in Windows, but it ends up being a bear if you don't know how to keep it in check. Kyle Rodgers
October 22, 201312 yr Author This is something I just repost each time since it's so much of an issue: Ok I have tried this, and I couldn't get that to work. But I have tried another heavy session, with all the add-ons and I think the memory tweak has really helped. For example, before the tweaks, four CTD in a row, then after the tweak a major improvment, 2 flights with no crashes. So maybe it wasn't a fluke. But fingers crossed it will stay that way.
