October 10, 201312 yr As stated FSX locks up with the grey screen of dread. But only when clicking something on the CDU? I looked at the event log and I get this. The program fsx.exe version 10.0.61472.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel. October 11, 201312 yr Commercial Member But only when clicking something on the CDU? UIAutomationcore.dll fix? I know that's more for the FSX menus, and right clicking, but I figured it's worth checking. Kyle Rodgers
October 11, 201312 yr Author Julian Do you receive any message in CDU scratchpad before this happens? Is the screen blue or gray? Michael Cubine Different messeges before different CTD. One was insufficient fuel, so I had to correct it. Because of a strong wind componet average. The other messages was something like, 'Unable to decend' before a certain way point. But the crashes come when I am trying to fix these messages, almost as if I took one click too many. Yes it is a typical grey screen where it won't let you fly anymore, but the sounds of the cockpit and even FS2Crew are still playing. UIAutomationcore.dll fix? I know that's more for the FSX menus, and right clicking, but I figured it's worth checking. Nope I haven't tried that. Worth a look I guess. I have had a good run, witout too many issues but this problem is very persistent. J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
October 11, 201312 yr Commercial Member Nope I haven't tried that. Worth a look I guess. Yeah, that's one of the fundamental "you should definitely do this for FSX to run anything" type of fixes. Not just a PMDG thing. I do that before even tweaking the FSX.cfg. Kyle Rodgers
October 12, 201312 yr Author Thank you Kyle, Yes I seem to have a bit of de-ja-vu, about the, UIAutomationcore.dll fix, but I will certainlty try it, My system is due for a re format as things generally are getting messed up. And I need a new PC. J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
October 18, 201312 yr Author UIAutomationcore.dll fix? It crashed again tonight, half way through the flight, when I tried to add a STAR into the approach, page again with the CDU. Should I try and tweak the memory? What is causing that? Thank you. J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
October 18, 201312 yr Commercial Member Should I try and tweak the memory? What is causing that? Starting from the basics just to be sure: Running FSX as an admin with admin rights to the folders, or did you install it outside of the Program Files directory? Kyle Rodgers
October 18, 201312 yr Commercial Member Apologies for stepping in, but he has his sim installed in the X86 folder, from personal experience doing FS tech support over the years, that kind of installation causes a lot of random issues if windows is not setup correctly. Just wondering why he has it installed there? EDIT - Kyle, looks like we posted at the same time, I'll leave you to it Rob Prest

Rob, are you saying it should be in the 'Program Files' and not the x86? I really needed to know that if this is the case. FSX seems to by default put everything in the x86 folders. I have always found FSX very buggy compared to Fs9. Maybe this is why? Running FSX as an admin with admin rights to the folders, or did you install it outside of the Program Files directory? Yes All is running in Admin, and the program is using all admin rights. I forgot to say I have started using Frame rate limiter, I don't think this is a problem, it has been fine. But worth mentioning. J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
October 18, 201312 yr Try check if windows have change the read/write protection of the PMDG folder inside your FSX directory.. I had the same fault last night and after i discovered that PFPX could not save to the PMDG folder. After this voila .... just a thought Michael Moe
October 19, 201312 yr Author Try check if windows have change the read/write protection of the PMDG folder inside your FSX directory.. I had the same fault last night and after i discovered that PFPX could not save to the PMDG folder. After this voila .... just a thought A good thought. I am logged in as Admin. I always install FSX in the administrator account, rather than a user, with less permissions. And I lower UCA. I did notice that when you right click on any FSX folder, including the PMDG folder, that read only is selected on. I have tried switching this off. However it always seems to stay on. I have always noticed the read/write issue. And as a general rule I do run FSX software as admin. The overall reliability of the system has been ok in the past few months. Also I forgot to say Ezdok is a new addition, but I have had a few good flights before the issues started. The CDU can crash in 2D as well as in the 3d cockpit. J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
October 20, 201312 yr Commercial Member I have always noticed the read/write issue. Give yourself admin rights to the folder - does not matter if you're logged in as an admin or not, MS will protect the folders from anyone. Kyle Rodgers
October 20, 201312 yr Author Give yourself admin rights to the folder - does not matter if you're logged in as an admin or not, MS will protect the folders from anyone. OK I have tried googling this, this is really not working. It would probably be best to get my Windows Tech friend to look into it. The first problem is that there looks to be so many users, and Administrators that it looks very confusing. And it would be best I think not to waist too much of your time here. Thanks for your help. I will try and fix the admin thing, and see if this fixes the PMDG and FSX. J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
