is Nvidia Physx required for fsx and DX10

Featured Replies

I have followed Nick's guide and have setup fsx and NI for FAX with DX10.

I have removed all components not required per NIck during nvidiz driver install.

But I see the physx driver is still there, should that be uninstalled as well ?

Thanks... Hari

Unless you do not have games that require PhysX you can uninstall it, if you have games that require PhysX keep it there, you can also dedicate a 2nd card just for Physx, the card does not have to be the same as the primary one, exp: GTX 780 as the main card and a GTX 480 for PhysX, FSX do not use PhysX.

Thanks, I only use FSX, so will uninstall Physx right away.

Choose the "Custom" install, Hari when you're starting the driver install, and then select only the driver itself.

Take note of Alain's post, and install whatever else (like the sound driver) that you might need for some other game, etc..

However, having PhyX installed does not hurt FSX, does it?

Thanks,

No.

Appologies, Alain! This is precisely what I mean by "mindset".  Thinking that "this" doesn't matter, and "that" won't make a difference...  Well, keep on wondering what's causing frames to suffer, or stuttering here and there, or why can't I run this or that when landing at London or Paris or New York.

Without including hardware for the point of this discussion - everything matters. If it's loaded into memory then it hurts FSX. It doesn't matter what program it is. A lean machine is one running FSX only and nothing else except the specific addons you need for the flight.

If you are flying PNW, Darrington to Concrete to Diamond Point to Bowerman VFR - then don't run FTX Global, PMDG security, FSDT's Couatl or Addon Manager - or Africa, Asia, Australia - all of these are not needed and take up space and cpu cycles, however minimal.

That's the point where tweaking the cfg begins: that's the starting point - the baseline.

Paul,

You have to be more specific about PhysX driver and FSX regarding "everything matter", what I mean is that if PhysX driver has anything to do with FSX what so ever you have to show me how, tested with and without PhysX driver (documented)  is the only way to see if the PhysX driver will have a impact on FSX, PhysX's driver is for specific games and is not utilized with FSX.

I understand everything else you said about loading add on for FSX and not using them as you fly (as per the example you gave).

Don't you like technical debate.... :P

Yeah - you are right, Alain - even the word 'hurt' is subjective, but if it's a driver, and it's loaded, but not needed or used by FSX - in my book - it's gotta go.

"Don't you like technical debate....  :P"

No - no, one cannot have a technical debate - not on this type of forum, I really don't, and for several reasons - and I'm not going to go there.

I do have a couple of mantra's, though, and they both apply to FSX:-

1). Good things are seldom cheap, and cheap things are seldom good, and

2). When in the desert, one should worry about every drop of water!
