Extreme scenario - everything shutdown...

Featured Replies

What would happen to the controls of a real 777 if, all electric, hydraulic, pneumatic circuits were off, the engines and APU were also off, and the RAT had not been deployed?

Would it still respondo to control  column and rudder input?

I'm not familiar with the systems layout, so their might be a mechanical linkage to the control surfaces. But without ANYTHING helping you out, you wouldn't be able overcome the aerodynamic forces exerted on the controls. Not at any significant speed. It may even be difficult to  do sitting still due to the weight of everything.

I honestly have no idea. But I feel like you'd suddenly be sitting inside a 150+ ton cargo container going 200+ knots. You'd end up in and/or around a very big hole.

Just try sitting at the gate with everything off. See if the control surfaces move. Then slew up to 10k feet and see what happens.

Spoilers 4 and 11 are mechanically linked to the control column. The alternate pitch trim switch/lever is mechanically linked to the horizontal stab. This is sufficient to maintain control until power is restored.

Well, there you have it. ^^

Whow!

Thx!!!! Jordan and Dave, for the prompt replies :-)

And guess what? Apparently the PMDG 777 does model this extreme scenario

Ehehe, nooooo I really, difinitely, absolutely DID, but Alec, he didn't, and we've been trying to compare the FF WL 777 with the PMDG 777...

I had movement on the elevator surface after I turned off all systems. Maybe it's some residual pressure on the line? Flying this bird only with the Horizontal Stabilizer must be pretty hard!!

Out of interest, how did you test this? I tried moving the control column while cold and dark on the ground but the spoilers didn't budge. In the air, the RAT deployed immediately providing hydraulic power!

Oh, I didn't - Alec did.  I only tested in the X-Plane 10 version of the WL 777 ( no longer using FSX )
