November 9, 201312 yr First impressions: Annuska is great fun to fly, totally believable handling, slow, incredible lift and responsive. Found my bush plane in XPX. Immersive, difficult to taxi, must read Manual ... Torfi
November 10, 201312 yr The AN-2 by Red Eyes Aircraft Design Bureau is a very immersive and beautiful aircraft in terms of how the 3 D cockpit has been done. This is not a pane that the average user will be able to just jump in and do a 'cold & dark' without at least watching the excellent step by step STARTUP sequence video and augmented by reading the manual. Having said that it may be interesting to note that I've owned the AN-24 by Felis for sometime now .. and have yet to come to grips with a cold & dark startup. With little Annie however, I am now able to breeze through the startup procedure ... (note to self .. have to eventually watch the shutdown procedure video!). I'm primarily a regional/bush flyer and love my turboprops and assorted bush planes. The AN-2 is very definitely a bush plane. It flies relatively low .. and is slow, but if you love the challenge of nursing a rotary engine through a flight (watch your various engine management temperatures!), then you'll love the challenge that this airplane provides. I read in Wiki that the AN-2 was designed to be 'soldier proof' ... meaning that it was so basic that even a soldier could fly it. I tend to agree, that for the era it represents, the average soldier probably could learn to manage it well ... it seems complicated to me mainly because of it being Russian tech I think. This is definitely one of my favourite aircraft in X-P ... Cheers
