November 11, 201312 yr Hi all, I was recently browsing around and by chance came across a company called Virtavia www.virtavia.com who do military aircraft for FS9 and FSX (and now Xplane I think) I normally fly iFly 737 or Wilco Airbus and PMDG 747/MD11 the odd time.. and do not have a lot of military aircraft in the hanger. I checked out the Virtavia website and was immediately drawn to the C-17 Globemaster for FS9.. It looked cool so on a whim I bought it and the Hawker Hunter at simmarket. The C-17 is incredible. Beautiful Model, Excellent 2D and 3D Panels and the sound is unreal. It integrates extremely well with my Saitek Radio Panel, Autopilot Panel and Switch Panel. On the Matrox triplehead display the Virtual Cockpit is amazing and the frames are fluid ( I lock mine at 26 as the human eye cant really detect anything better).. Given that it is a 4 engine beast it has great range and of course you really need to fly it with the paper charts which means you are busy. I checked out a video on youtube of the real thing and the cockpit it very close to reality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYPr9i-GiKc Some Screenshots below at Duxford Airbase in the UK.. The main displays are multifunction (PFD, ND, MAP, Engine, Config) If you get this you wont regret it.. Well worth the few bob and well done to Virtavia for producing a splendid Aircraft.. All the best, John FS9 Driver
November 11, 201312 yr This looks very nice. I bought the Hunter and regretted it, because the VC did not look like the real thing at all, much too uncluttered ... The external model was very good though. You should get the freeware PBY Catalina for FS9, it is also an excellent plane! November 11, 201312 yr "Virtavia is an Australian FS addon company which has emanated from the long-established NZ company AlphaSim. Virtavia's products consist of rebranded AlphaSim addons and also all-new FSX addons." I was one of the few who proudly (foolishly?) helped fund the development of the C-17 in the last days of ALPHASIM, back in 2010. It was a whopping price too, and came without VC, which was part of the development promise they made. Much to everyone's amazement, Virtavia honoured the deal, and after more than a year, produced the finished product! I do like the real aircraft and this rendering of it. Most surprisingly, there is FS2004 competition for it in the shape of the Area 51 offering, apparently to a similar standard.
