Question about addon airports?

Featured Replies

Do they just cover the airport and nothing else? I was looking at flytampa's stuff, and 40$ seems a bit much just for an airport, no matter how realistic.

Some may include several miles of surrounding photo real scenery

What Graham said. To be more specific about FlyTampa's pricing (as that is the OP's concern), they are spot on with their price policy. All those airports that are priced 36$ on their website cover not only the airport but also the surroundings, and they do so with an incredible level of detail at literally zero FPS impact, so the price is definitely great. As for the lower-priced addons, those do indeed cover only the airport (and a bit of the surroundings to create some immersion on the final approach), but still with lots of details and excellent preformance.

Whether the surroundings are also included or not can usually be judged by looking at the promotional screenshots - if they only show airport facilites, you can safely assume that the scenery covers only the airport, if they show more, obviously this can also be expected in your sim. But the best is probably to ask here if you're not sure!

But airports are still extremely expensive virtual real estate. Unless you'll be flying a lot to them, consider your budget. Most of my airports I fly to once or twice, then never again. There are many good freeware alternatives depending on where you want to fly.
