November 19, 201312 yr Brand new custom build to run FSX (specs below): Runs perfectly, beautiful graphics - but locks at random times, sometimes no message, sometimes "Microsoft Flight Simulator has stopped working", sometimes BSOD "MEMORY-MANAGEMENT" or BSOD "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT" I would appreciate any advice on where to look; replace the RAM? Change settings? November 19, 201312 yr The following link provides about the best explanation as to what caused your crash and how to fix it - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/568-63-bsod-pfn_list_corrupt#. Basically it comes down to a bad driver or corrupted memory. You might want to run a Memory Diagnostics. In Windows 7 (do not know what OS you have installed), click on the Start button and type memory in the search box, look up in the menu and click on Memory Diagnostics. Open it up and follow the guidance. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! November 22, 201312 yr Author Thanks JIm - did the diagnostic and checked out OK, but I noticed Win 7 was using only 16 Gigs (of the 32 installed) - of course, then learned it was a limitation in Home Premium, upgraded and - so far (about 12 hours of testing) no BSODs. I do still get some CTDs, however - making progress I guess. Is there a good program to diagnose driver issues? Thanks again for your help...
November 22, 201312 yr Is there a good program to diagnose driver issues? Thanks again for your help... I used this program a lot at work a lot when the computer are running kind of slow or when new driver have certain bugs . I never used it at home with my FSX rig but it might help . http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-SystemCare/3000-2086_4-10407614.html Mr Leny CPU I7 8700K @ 5.0GHz , MOBO -Asus Maximus X Hero (WiFi AC),GPU - GTX1080 TI , RAM - CORSAIR Vengeance RGB 16GB DDR4 3600MHz SSD -Crucial MX500 1TB (P3D Install Only)OS- Samsung 960 EVO 500GB (Window 10 Pro 64)
November 22, 201312 yr today's systems and drivers are generally really stable a bsod or ctd is super rare especially if you are seeing them at random times not just fsx.. my first thing i would do is double check that the timings, voltages etc for the ram are set correctly in the bios. since you're not overclocking maybe you just have defaults here which should have conservative settings already, in which case it kinda sounds more like a possible hardware issue.. for investigating that, the 2nd thing i would try is just swap out those DRAM chips. use 2 of them and see if it still happens, then try the other two, or test 1 at a time if you have patience.. good luck, diagnosing these types of problems can be very frustrating cheers -andy crosby
November 22, 201312 yr Is there a good program to diagnose driver issues? There is nothing I know of but there is a program that looks at all of your crashes and this program can at least give you a clue as to what is causing your CTD's. Download and run AppCrashView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html. It will show you every crash you have had since installing Windows. It provides more information than the Microsoft crash reports. In each crash, the first thing you will want to look at is the faulting module. Sometimes this module is connected to a driver (as has occurred with ATI drivers going bad in other CTD reports provided here in this forum). Another possible cause of crashes is out-of-date drivers. Microsoft Windows does a good job updating Windows and some drivers but they don't get to all the hardware and motherboard and USB drivers required for system stability. I use a program called Driver Scanner. It is freeware and it will scan your system for out-of-date drivers. If it finds any, it will tell you exactly what driver(s) are out-of-date. You can purchase and register the driver program and the program will download and install the updates for you or you can go to Google or Bing and search for the driver and download and install it yourself. I run mine once a week and it usually finds 2 or 3 updated drivers. Hope this helps. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! November 23, 201312 yr Author OK latest - several more CTDs, then returning BSODs. Finally did what Spesimen suggested - DRAM was under warranty so I exchanged it completely (Patriot Viper was replaced by Corsair Vengeance - 4x8Gb at 1866 MHz). So far no lags, hesitations, CTDs, BSODs, etc. Ran Carenado C90B with all sliders full right through a real-time rain storm to ILS at BOS with all the 2D screens, etc - never a glitch. I'm (hopefully) considering the issue resolved and thank all of you for your help and suggestions. - Jeff Welsh
