November 28, 201312 yr Hi there, Just trying to get Opus working with P3D V2 and am having a few issues. I downloaded and installed the latest version (3.36.1) and followed the reinstall instructions. Then I set up FSXServer to point to my P3D V2 install (on a different drive). My issues are: - even though I created and set up prepar3d.xml, the server doesn't autostart with P3D. - If I manually start the server, it is defaulting into demonstration mode (even though the OPUS Software and OPUS FSX directories are as recommended, and worked fine with FSX). Would you please be able to help? Thanks! Dylan
November 28, 201312 yr Commercial Member Make sure there is a Simconnect.dll xml file in the sim http://www.simforums.com/forums/p3d-v2-problem-solved_topic47893.html As you know when you change the sim type you must shut down and run OpusFSX again. Make sure you only have one copy of OpusFSX installed in Windows Control Panel using the Uninstall Programs option (not some Cleaner type package). All the FS... EXE and DLL files in the OpusFSX folder should have the same date, if they don't then uninstall OpusFSX and reinstall. The software looks for the licence and key files on drive C in your c:\Opus Software folder.Don't install OpusFSX in the Opus Software, FSX or Program Files folders, and don't install in more than one folder on your PC. Otherwise being in demo mode can be a problem with a corrupt licence file, but if it is running OK with FSX then this won't be the case for you. Cheryl
November 29, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the help Cheryl. I reinstalled the software from the wrapper and that fixed demonstration mode. However, when I run FSXServer, it crashes P3D. Where exactly is the simconnect xml file supposed to be?
November 29, 201312 yr Commercial Member Not sure if it makes any difference whether simconnect xml is in the P3D installation folder or the AppData/Roaming.... folder, I will have to check. Does P3D crash if you start OpusFSX before P3D? Also do you get any error messages in the OpusFSX Spy window? Cheryl
November 29, 201312 yr Hi Stephen/Cheryl<br />I am having problems connecting Opus to P3Dv2. I have read thru this post and confirm my configure points to the proper path for P3Dv2. I am certain my problem is with SimConnect. Can you provide detailed instructions on how to install SimConnect into P3Dv2? I am running Opus version 3.36.1.<br />Thanks John Pipilas Win 10 - i7 2600k CPU - AMD Radeon R9 Fury X GPU
November 29, 201312 yr Commercial Member I believe you may need to create a SimConnect.xml file in the same folder as the P3D cfg file. Some have reported they had to run Opus before P3D. Another reported he used our SimConnect.msi, supplied in the OpusFSX folder, to install and it was then OK. I am not at the computer now so can't check my FSX.cfg folder to see if that has a SimConnect.xml file. If you don't have an xml file you should first try and create one, you can get some advice by Googling it or I suppose use the FSX file as a guide. Let us know how you get the SimConnect link enabled as this seems a common problem, most likely P3D not installing an xml automatically. Good luck John. The Spy window will confirm the errors as it fails to connect but that will just confirm it can't connect via SimConnect. The SimConnect is most likely installed otherwise the FSXSERVER program would report a missing library file as it tidies to load the SimConnect library software. Stephen :-)
November 29, 201312 yr What would be the contents of the SimConnect.xml file? I have copied over my SimConnect.xml from FSX into P3Dv2 but keep getting fatal error and P3Dv2 shuts down when starting Opus. John Pipilas Win 10 - i7 2600k CPU - AMD Radeon R9 Fury X GPU
November 29, 201312 yr Commercial Member The SimConnect.xml file should be placed in the in the C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D folder or the C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D folder. Cheryl Here's my SimConnect.xml for FSX ... <?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?><SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0"> <Descr>SimConnect</Descr> <Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <SimConnect.Comm> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Protocol>Auto</Protocol> <Scope>local</Scope> <Address></Address> <MaxClients>64</MaxClients> <Port></Port> <MaxRecvSize>4096</MaxRecvSize> <DisableNagle>False</DisableNagle> </SimConnect.Comm></SimBase.Document> Stephen
November 29, 201312 yr That is where I placed it. But what exactly are the contents of the SimConnect file? John Pipilas Win 10 - i7 2600k CPU - AMD Radeon R9 Fury X GPU
November 29, 201312 yr Thanks for your help Opus. Got it to connect now but you have to start Opus first. Now time to set up P3D Cams.... Thanks! John Pipilas Win 10 - i7 2600k CPU - AMD Radeon R9 Fury X GPU
November 30, 201312 yr Commercial Member Thanks for the feedback John, looks like the new P3D drops the SimConnect link altogether if it doesn't find something on the other end to connect to. Stephen
November 30, 201312 yr Unfortunately today I am getting the same problem. P3Dv2 stops working when starting Opus. I have tried Opus first then P3Dv2 and visa versa but problem persists... John Pipilas Win 10 - i7 2600k CPU - AMD Radeon R9 Fury X GPU
November 30, 201312 yr Commercial Member Try disabling weather update on start up, the Opus won't really be doing anything apart from connecting to P3D. Check the Spy window in case any errors are reported. Stephen
November 30, 201312 yr Hi Stephen I disabled weather update on start up but same problem. Odd sequence of events: 1. The Spy window first displays "Failed to establish link 1 with Simulator" and "Error HRESULT E_Fail has been returned from a call to a COM component." 2. P3Dv2 error message appears Lockheed Martin P3Dv2 has stopped working. 3. Spy window displays SIM Link 1 established with Simulator (4 times) which would suggest there is a connection but P3Dv2 has already crashed! Any ideas? November 30, 201312 yr Commercial Member Yes, it looks like your P3D system is still struggling with its SimConnect interface. Could be a compatibility issue. You could see about downloading a SimConnect or checking for a SimConnect.msi that comes with the P3D installation. Then install this package. Stephen The Opus errors in Spy are normal and just occur while its attempting every 10 seconds or so to connect to the SimConnect. Stephen
