December 9, 201312 yr Using ASN approaching final at KMDW in a snow storm with 22 mile an hour winds when I hit what I have to believe was a wind shear. Should there be wind shears in snow storms? R Goodson
December 9, 201312 yr Sure can. A wind shear is a sudden change in direction of the winds, or a drastic change in wind speed which can dramatically cause your aircraft to loose airspeed quickly and thus stall or fall out of the sky. Windshear is not to be confused with a microburst which results from strong down drafts in a thunderstorm. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Devin CYOW
December 9, 201312 yr Commercial Member Should there be wind shears in snow storms? It's a storm. The type of precipitation is due to the temp. Wind shear has other variables as well, but suffice it to say... it's a storm, so it's possible.
