December 10, 201312 yr Hi All, Would an Nvidia GTX 470 to GTX 480 make a viable low cost upgrade? Thanks Daz Only you can determine the value of price-to-performance tradeoff, but I think if you'll spend over a hundred bucks, and get only a small gain that might be lost in the noise of all the other variables that contribute to performance and visuals, that might not be worth it. Just a gut sense, no hard data to back that up, but I wouldn't do it if it were me. I would rather save that money for a later generation card.
December 10, 201312 yr Author I was looking at a performance graph and I'd have to move up to something like a GTX 570 to get anything better than a 480
December 11, 201312 yr 480 will run FSX fine....doubt it will manage P3D2 though as it only has 1.5GB v-ram. If money is tight go for it. I ran my sim on it for years before upgrading when I built a new machine. 4 years down the line it needs another rebuild....welcome to the money pit. Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
December 13, 201312 yr I also would like to upgrade from GTX 470 to something around $200, any suggestions? Jacek G. Ryzen 5800X3D | Asus RTX4090 OC | 64gb DDR4 3600 | Asus ROG Strix X570E | HX1000w | Fractal Design Torrent RGB | AOC AGON 49' Curved QHD |
December 22, 201312 yr Hi All, Would an Nvidia GTX 470 to GTX 480 make a viable low cost upgrade? Thanks Daz I think you would see about zero improvement. In fact looking at the specs I really can't see any differences at all. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-470/specifications http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-480/specifications gb.
