GTX 470 to GTX 480 viable low cost upgrade?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Would an Nvidia GTX 470 to GTX 480 make a viable low cost upgrade?

Thanks

Daz

Only you can determine the value of price-to-performance tradeoff, but I think if you'll spend over a hundred bucks, and get only a small gain that might be lost in the noise of all the other variables that contribute to performance and visuals, that might not be worth it.  Just a gut sense, no hard data to back that up, but I wouldn't do it if it were me.  I would rather save that money for a later generation card.

I was looking at a performance graph and I'd have to move up to something like a GTX 570 to get anything better than a 480

480 will run FSX fine....doubt it will manage P3D2 though as it only has 1.5GB v-ram. If money is tight go for it. I ran my sim on it for years before upgrading when I built a new machine. 4 years down the line it needs another rebuild....welcome to the money pit.

Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

I also would like to upgrade from GTX 470 to something around $200, any suggestions?

I think you would see about zero improvement.

In fact looking at the specs I really can't see any differences at all.

I have not used it myself but there were some posts saying the 660Ti/660 were pretty good for the money.
