I noticed this rather odd quote in the History section of the just-released FSD Piaggio P180 manual:"This beautiful aircraft, built by Piaggio of Italy. is a breakthrough of sorts, being almost as fast as many corporate jets, yet much more fuel efficient, due to the use of turbine driven 5-bladed pusher propellers and many other many unique design features. The RC kit will be fully molded, including the wings and tail surfaces, and will include all molded-in panel lines, gear doors, etc.. This aircraft features a three lifting surface design, and very low drag shapes on every part of the aircraft. Even the engine nacelles are area ruled, for low drag. As you might guess from the appearance, it began as a joint project between Piaggio and Lear."I thought the reference to an RC kit to be rather odd...especially given that I also found that same quote in a NextCraft Models web page (complete with the erroneous period following "Italy": http://www.nextcraft.com/p180.htmlGiven that NextCraft are in the business of RC models, I tend to believe the verbage originated there.Would it be considered kosher for one to cut and paste material verbatim off other websites and then market the work as your own, complete with one's own copyright announcement on the page in question?Perhaps that's not what has happened...but I for one would like FSD to explain this one to the community. It's of special importance, since FSD have placed themselves conspicuously as a community leader in taking measures against piracy of their own works. What say you FSD?RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC

Geezz Bob,You really ought to get out a bit more....The world outside is a very nice place. :-smile12 Jim

Yeah, maybe you're right...OTOH it's like 18 degrees and windy out there...I remember discovering a renamed exact duplicate of the MS King Air airfile in another commercial product a few years ago. The guy running the company was one of the industry mouthpieces on anti-piracy at the time. So I brought it up, because the combo makes it an issue. And so it goes with FSD. They've made an art form out of copy protection and restricted access to their support forum in the name of anti-piracy...so it becomes a larger issue when I find what appears to be the work of others cut-n-pasted into one of their products. At the very least, it's a good topic for some healthy discussion.CheerioBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC

I think it would be more appropriate to ask FSD directly rather than making a public accusation with no other facts. Looks to me like that text was borrowed to frame up what the document should contain and it never got re-written. Could easily be a simple mistake and obviously if they wanted to plagiarize they would have simply removed the RC and model references and passed it off as their own.Douglas

Thank you Bob, for the alert. The text you show was indeed copied without my permission, and used nearly verbatim in the P-180 article. I can assure you that I am the original creator of the text, and it has appeared on my web site for several years. ( http://www.nextcraft.com/p180.html )Personally, I never copy and paste from someone else's site, unless the snippet is presented as such, like "This is a quote from web site X..." So, these people were lazy. I hope their virtual plane was not created with the same lack of creativity. (And... I don't know them, and don't fly that simulator, so I'm not insulting their P-180 work.) I fly "X-Plane".Anyway, no big harm done. Just a couple of paragraphs of text. Still, I do appreciate the heads up, Bob.Take care, and happy flying.

Yes, that was a paragraph of the "History" section of the manual, which did not belong in there. It was not only not written by me, but it also is not relevant to our software. It was an error and has been removed from the manual. Thanks for pointing this out.http://www.fsd-international.com/team/TD_forum_sig.gif

>This aircraft features a three lifting surface design

Busted!Bunch of lazy hyprocrites!!

It would be SO nice if FSD now explained to us when, how and why they changed their previously rather severe stance on copyrights and violations of same. Personally I'm not surprised on account of NEVER trusting any public cruisader, and I always mightily enjoy catching the bishop buggering the choir boy. But many people are far less cynical than me, and they might look forward to reviewing FSD's changed anti-piracy policy.Jaap Verduijn.

If your going to purchase payware, you really should consider who your purchasing from...I HIGHLY recommend Dreamfleet/Flight1/RealityXP (1) outstanding quality (2) Good customer support (3) No Hassle reinstall-reactivate key policy(unlike some companies) (4) 30 day money back guarantee
