December 27, 200421 yr I got a new ViewSonic VE175 17" LCD from Santa and decided to try out a dual monitor setup. So the LCD is connected to the 15-pin VGA connector on my HIS ICEQ Excalibur 9800pro. I have my old Acer V771 17" monitor connected to my DVI-I to VGA adapter. Now the problem is this. The Acer monitor mirrors everything on the LCD. how can I switch between monitors? I want to set my LCD to panel view and the Acer as a spot view. I'm using the latest ATI catalyst drivers. Thanks for any advice in advance
December 27, 200421 yr Hey bud... hope this helps. Go into your display properties, in the settings section. You want to set one to have the "Extend my desktop onto this monitor" enabled. The one that has it greyed out is going to be your primary monitor, and the one that you select that option on is going to be your secondary. You'll be able to figure it out, I'm sure. Point is, you want to extend the desktop to the other monitor... otherwise, you'll get two monitors with the same image. Hope you enjoy your new monitor setup!
December 27, 200421 yr Right click on the desktop, go to settings. Select the second monitor and then make sure the option "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" is selected. This allows you to use the second monitor as an extension of your current desktop.**edit -- Beat me to it Todd :)**__Josh
December 27, 200421 yr Hmmm- I did it last year, but I don't remember. There is a setting in the display properties. I didn't keep it, since the displays weren't spanned. I could put a 3D view on both displays, but using active camera only caused one to turn, so they weren't in sync. One thing that annoys me is that windows don't remember there correct positions, and displays- so every time I fired it up I would have to move the windows into their proper positions. Also, you can't use fullscreen mode- If you do, then the primary display goes fullscreen and the others are just black. It would be great if you had enough displays for 3 3D views for the panorama, and a few more for the panels. But I found two wasn't good enough, and I still liked active camera on a single monitor (I fly from the VC strictly). Now that I have the TrackIR Vector Expansion, I don't see using multi-monitors until I can afford the afformentioned setup.
December 27, 200421 yr Pete:I understand your frustration and hope somebody comes up with a better defined cause and solution. On my 9800 Pro card, in the past I have had my displays come up exactly as you define, WITH the extended settings as per the fine advice by others to your post. this was intermittent for me though. If I do not have the extended display checked, my secondary monitor is in standby and there is no display at all as it has always been with any video card I have used (with dual monitor capability).Usually, all I have had to do is restart my computer and the cloned display goes away and I can have separate displays with no problem. This problem (cloned displays) has not happened for some time now (thankfully), but in all honesty I never did anything to my knowledge to cure the problem. I still do not know what causes it, how to intentially make it happen, or what I did to cure it (except to restart my computer). Posts to this effect have produced no answers. With my old NVIDIA card there was an option for the cloned display by simply checking a box, but to my knowledge this is not an option with the 9800, although both of us do see such a display occasionally. Somewhere, that capability exists but I have no idea how to enable or disable it (clone only).I am not sure how to spread a single display across multiple monitors with the 9800 either for that matter as was possible with the older cards (probably a memory problem between the ears).Possibly newer drivers helped or cured the clone problem but I am not sure. At any rate it has been a little while since I saw the problem.(Presently useing the new 4.12 Catalyst).Happy hunting:RTH
December 27, 200421 yr Author The ATI Catalyst Control Centre allows you to stretch the image across two monitors. Select the option to stretch horizontally to CRT. Seeing the PMDG VC in 2569x1024 is:-eek You must install Netframework 1.1 to use the control centre. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
December 29, 200421 yr Look at this site:http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/2...displya-10.htmlIt worked for me
December 30, 200421 yr Thanks loads Howard:I just recently started useing the Center rather than the panel utility and had not fully examined all of the options. The Panel also may have had these provisions, but I totally overlooked them. This answers my clone situation as well. Many features I had overlooked and look forward to experimenting with. Your information is greatly appreciated.Respectfully:RTH
