December 24, 201312 yr Has anybody got FSX installed on a USB 3.0 external drive? If so, does it perform ok? I'm looking to do this. I have x-plane 10.25 on my USB 3.0 drive and it performs brilliant! My internal drive is very old and slow. And I can't afford a new one just yet. My USB 3.0 drive is 1TB. Thanks Ian
December 24, 201312 yr Give it a try and see how it performs. It only takes about 30 mins to install. Nature Boy
December 26, 201312 yr One of the members here installed it and used it as the primary FSX drive. Crashing every so often. He had the 7200 rpm speed. I told him to move the FSX installation off the USB drive and his crashes stopped. I also recommended placing scenery on the external drive but be very careful as USB 3.0 is not mature yet and there could be driver issues, USB ports not working properly, etc., etc. I use an external USB 3.0 drive for storage of all of my backups and fsx add on software and then install the software from that drive. I would not make it a drive for installation of an addon you will be using. It might work for a week, two-weeks, maybe a month, but eventually you will get unexplained crashes or fsx freezes.
