December 27, 201312 yr As Vee1 put so eloquently in another post: Some users don't have the time to do more than skim the manual, so if this question has been addressed in the manual - I apologize. Which of the provided preset panel sets more likely represents the state a 777 commercial airline pilot will find a 777 at a gate for an early morning flight? Xaver Uzo

December 27, 201312 yr Author Thanks blocks_off! I saw that - the question was "which of the two of the two most likely represents the state one would find the aircraft in the morning." Edited December 27, 201312 yr by X_Man Xaver Uzo
December 28, 201312 yr Assuming the aircraft had an overnight stay at the airport it would be the Long Turnaround state IMO. Pilots will almost never find a cold and dark. That is usually what Maintenece crews deal with. Planes like the 777 do t have much down time unless in for Maintenece and they are the ones who taxi/tow the plane to and from the gate for maintence. They would leave it fairly ready to go with the battery on, GPU hooked up for the next flight. Steven Herzberg, "I rather be flying"
December 28, 201312 yr Author Thanks Miami747! Does anyone know the differences in the two panel states (...other than the obvious name difference blocks_off ) Xaver Uzo
December 28, 201312 yr It depends on the airline, some airlines have the plane powered up with ground power/air while others have the APU running for the entire turn even if its several hours, maintenance needs to do their ETOPS checks and other work so pilots who shut everything down will do nothing but annoy mechanics who have to power everything back up again, also people like catering and cleaners can't work in a pitch black cabin. The only time I've seen cold and dark out on the line is when the APU was inop and the GPU at the gate was also broken so they kept engine 2 running until everyone was off to keep the cabin lit (the plane was going to the hangar afterwards so they didn't bother pulling a GPU cart from the bag room). If its extremely cold like -10*F then the APU stays on the whole night so that stuff in the cabin won't turn into ice blocks. Another thing to note is that you can have a cold and dark cabin but if the GPU is plugged in the cabin still can be fully lit and operational since its lighting controls are separate from the cockpit.
