PMDG 737 NGX + fs2crew + failures = questions

Featured Replies

Hi

I started to feel more comfortable with standard 737 procedures and fs2crew flows so I want to take it to a higher level and install emergency NGX from fs2crew and start service based failures (in the meantime I will also start failures which I will choose to practice flows and checklists during failures).

I have some questions regarding this matter

1. As I understand service based failures are connected to how much time I've spent using particular livery - what is the easiest way to check how much time I've spent flying particular livery? Is there a way to reset this time to 0 so the plane is like "new"? Just uninstall and install livery?

2. Fs2crew doesn't model all of the failures - Am I able to run service based failures but turning off those which are not modeled by emergency NGX?

3. I understand that QRH will be my new best friend? Is it that crucial? All emergency NGX manual covers it enough to handle issues that will come up?

4. Are there any checklist/charts made by users for emergency NGX or manual is enough?

5. Emergency NGX mentions "memory items" - are this the tasks that need to be performed but are not mentioned in QRH?

Thank You in advance for the answers

Since there was no answers I will share what I discovered during the process:

1. Each livery starts with its own cfg. To reset plane so it is "like new" - remove livery and remove associated livery cfg file from PMDG folder. Than install livery and start the game and plane starts from "scratch".

2. Not possible. With service based failures either all or none. Still helps me with convincing myself to read QRH - great lecture btw goes deep into systems and their reactions with particular failures + it covers emergency procedures nicely. Must read!

3. Yes, it is crucial. :)

4. Didn't find one but manual is enough. I will prepare a checklist in excel together with flows and share on Avsim but this will take some time. I will be referring to QRH in it to make emergency NGX checklists more complete.

5. It seems that these are tasks which needs to be conducted by either PF or FO.

Hope that it will be useful to someone ;) happy new year all!

Hello,

I will venture to add some info.

4. Are there any checklist/charts made by users for emergency NGX or manual is enough?

There is a great resource out there called 737 Management Reference Guide.

It is written by long-year 737 captain, and contains some more information on actions required and their consequences (and reasons for them as well). i.e. more detailed QRH

Additionally, it contains information about fault lights logic and schematics. Great book. Definitely worth buying if you are serious about 737 simming incl. failures etc.

For certain critical failures, a set of actions exists, that will be done before QRH is taken out. This would include especially time critical actions such as pulling your oxygen masks and initiation descent in case of an explosive decompression, or pulling the fire handle in case of an engine fire. Once memory items are managed, further action will be done according to the papers.

Thank You for the input! Good that emergency NGX manual covers memory items :)
