December 31, 200421 yr Hi guy's,I have recently been having a problem with FS9 locking up after selecting a flight, while loading the terrain.(screen goes black.)Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?I'm stumped, and have tried numerous fixes to no avail.you can e-mail me direct at [email protected] Thanks,Jon.
December 31, 200421 yr JonI have been getting a simular problem but it is when I select a weather scenario. If I create weather or download weather from the internet no problem.I have reinstalled FS9 with the same problem so I too would like some help or pointers.Peter
December 31, 200421 yr An earlier version of LAGO's FS Enhancer (pre v1.10) used to caused an "out of memory" lockup error on my system when loading FS2004, but in that case the loading terrain dialog never got past 0%.Have you installed any 3rd-party scenery lately? A bad BGL can wreak havoc on FS2004.-- Walt
December 31, 200421 yr Peter--Are you using Chris Willis' DXT3 cloud textures (via direct replacement or by using FSSW 2004)? If so, it could be your "Render to texture" setting in FS.Jon--On your lockup during terrain loading...are you using Lennart's recent texture release? If so, do a thread search, lots being discussed on that now.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
December 31, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi, "Peter--Are you using Chris Willis' DXT3 cloud textures (via direct replacement or by using FSSW 2004)? If so, it could be your "Render to texture" setting in FS."This issue is not related to clouds, and if using dxt clouds with Render to texture is not enabled, fs2004 will stop at 77%, fs2004 will only stop at 77% and not at 59%, differents issue here.Ps: 99% of the stock clouds in fs sky world 2004 are all 32 bits like default fs2004.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
January 1, 200521 yr If it is locking up at 58%, it's likely to be an issue with a terrain texture. I had this same exact issue of locking up at 58% with an install of USA Roads and it turned out that it was a corrupt road texture. It worked fine after I replaced the corrupt texture.
January 2, 200521 yr >This issue is not related to clouds, and if using dxt clouds>with Render to texture is not enabled, fs2004 will stop at>77%, fs2004 will only stop at 77% and not at 59%, differents>issue here.>>>Ps: 99% of the stock clouds in fs sky world 2004 are all 32>bits like default fs2004.Chris; Yes, but when Peter said he had a similar problem, I took that to mean FS stopped loading at some point. I looked back through the thread and didn't see 59% mentioned. (?) Edit: OK, duh, now I see the 59% in the subject line. I had the DXT3 + render to texture problem myself a while back, and it was because I had substituted some of your DXT clouds for the default ones in FSSW and forgot about the render to texture setting. It didn't bother me right away...not until I tried to fly in wx that used those clouds anyway. Thanks for your work on the FS cloud textures. FSSW + ActiveSky 2004 are for me the only improvements that have justified upgrading to FS2004.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
January 4, 200521 yr Author JonI had a similar problem. In my case FS would stop loading between 9% and11% but also at higher percentages sometimes. The full symptoms were:I would pick an airport at the main screen but it would freeze while loading the terrain. If I loaded the default flight (Cessna @ KSEA) it would always work.Once loaded I would then try to go to the airport I couldn't previouslyload and it would then generally work 90% of the time.Someone suggested that I check the full installation for:Landclass files and then onsolidate them in their own directory without a texture folder. Check AFCAD files to ensure no duplicates.Check for any FS2002 mesh or scenery, possibly incompatible with FS9 The other suggestion was to check hard Disk for bad sectors whichtheoretically could also cause loading problems.Carried out all the checks as per above and although I coudn't tell whichof the above did the trick, I must confess my Landclass and AFCAF files were all over the place and after fixing them everything now works OK.
