A couple weeks ago I read were you could disable some of the scenery addons  if you were not flying in that area to free up some memory space.

So I went to scenery library and unchecked about five airports and flew for a while. Yesterday I rechecked them, but when I checked the areas,

they only came back partially. They are all messed up now. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Never heard of this happening before.  Simply disable the scenery, run fsx, shutdown fsx, restart fsx, enable scenery, run fsx.  If you have the utility SceneryConfigEditor, then you can enable/disable before starting up FSX.

Is this true, does it improve performance if you disable the ones you won't be using?

It is a proven fact it improves performance especially if you have any photoscenery installed.
