January 16, 201412 yr Hi Folks, Well as the title says I did it......trouble is....I am not getting good results I have followed the set up to the letter and even reduced my AA to 4 ssgg and 4 in the fixer but when I get in clouds with the airbus AXE my frames are tanking! in fact my frames are not steady at all and worst of all the sim is not smooth... regardless of FPS, I only fly tubes! So I am here asking for some help please running a i7 2600 oc to 4.5 and gtx 770 memory corsair 16gb so lot of push. I know clouds are hard on the sim but I use FEX low res ones and to be truthful DX9 would hold between 25 and 29 on the ground and 29 in the air but as I fly through them the rate is just dropping 19/23/24 and on the ground taxing is a slide show... There is plenty of success with this so I put it down to user error.....any ideas! thank you
January 17, 201412 yr Author Update, Last night I did a full revert back to DX 9 old files and backed up shaders etc, then ran the same situation uk2000 Gatwick UT2 traffic and the Aerosoft airbus. Cloudy and rain and frames stayed well up in the high twenties most of the time 29 occasional dip to 26. So DX10 for me is not good it struggles badly with clouds why I do not know my settings were lower in AA to accommodate. I think Steve has done a great job but after debating to make the change for over a week it back to where I was. Well I will try PD 3 when the patch is out and if the reviews are good...thank you Steve for you contribution to this hobby good luck everyone. Cheers
January 18, 201412 yr So DX10 for me is not good it struggles badly with clouds Transparency SGSS is bad news with clouds but I only have to use it with DX10. When you go back to DX9 are you still using TSGSS? If not that might explain why your FPS pick up. gb. Edit: In your other post you said you were using 1024 clouds. These are not really that low considering default FSX clouds are 256. Why not try FEX 512 DXT5 clouds and their lower water and wave animation settings. gb. YSSY. January 18, 201412 yr Author Gboz, thanks for your reply, I use SGSS with DX9 no issues at all the frames are high and even taxing is very exceptable. I Gboz, Sorry pressed the wrong button before I had finished! anyway take on board what you say re the cloud resolution but I have been using 1024 for year no issue so dropping it just to make DX10 work seems counter productive. I think this is a shader issue that need looking at as clouds and any AA and I just cannot fly it stutters very badly even in flight. All my flying is tubes to big payware airports with AI and weather so this may not be for me which is a shame. As I said DX9 is just better for me why I can only guess..shaders...well I am sure Steve may find a solution yet. Tried everything now and will have to park it unless someone who has had this experience has a magic bullet! All the best
January 18, 201412 yr Commercial Member Can you save a flight that has this issue? Then try loading it in DX9 and DX10 and changing the aircraft to a standard FSX aircraft to see what happens. Is it related to it raining as you suggested above? Does changing the cloud density or cloud draw distance have an impact? Did you have DX10 compatible lights enabled? Try disabling that - it might be related to contrails or other effects that are limiting the CPU available to calculate the billboard matrices. My FSX Analysis Blog
January 19, 201412 yr I have a gtx 780 and and i5 and I'm getting good performance in heavy cloud coverage in the pmdg 777. I'm using 8x aa in the fixer and 8x sparse grid in ni. I have the cloud shader box in the fixer unchecked. Try that and see if it helps
