January 17, 201412 yr Hello all, I'm getting back into flight sim and want to start with a hardware upgrade, i have been quoted the following upgrade components and am wondering if there is any overkill here or a bottle neck. I want the system to be able to run FSX or P3D v2 or x-plane whichever i decided to stick with.. most likely P3D. i7 4770k CPU Asus maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150 motherboard Kingston KHX1600C9D3 memory Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H801 windows 8.1 Samsung 840 Evo 250GB SSD MSI GTX 780 3GB video card Corsair 750W power another question i have is how high can i overclock this safely? Any comments to improve this would be greatly appreciated. Jim YVR Jim Vasto
January 17, 201412 yr If you're building mainly for FSX/P3D I'd recommend you buy W7 over 8.1 its just more stable and less of a hassle.
January 17, 201412 yr Agree with the above comment about 7 vs. 8.1 but other than that looks great. Ryan L.
January 17, 201412 yr I'd advise a better cooler if you want to overclock. The Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H801 can certainly be bettered. A Thermalright Archon SB-E X2 would be better, as would the Noctua NH-D14, as would the Thermalright Silver Arrow. And others. If you definitely want to go for an AIO water cooler, the H110 is the best in terms of cooling and noise. I hope you have more than just the 250 GB Evo for storage? If you get a top notch cooler, then you should be able to overclock between 4.2 and 4.6. Depending on the silicone lottery. 4.4 would be a reasonable expectation. http://www.guru3d.co..._review,13.htmlH100i 76 degreesKraken X60 70 degrees [Noisy higher RPM fans]Corsair H110 72 degrees [Very quiet]NH-D14 72 degrees [Very quiet]
