January 26, 201412 yr I'm trying to figure out why, when I am in standard 2D cockpit view, I am not able to see my main instrument panel. I've gone into the "View" menu, clicked on "instrument panels" and have made sure to mark the "Main Panel" option. When I do that, the outside view gets pressed up to the top of the screen and I'm left with a big black area below the outside view where I presume the instrument panel would be, alas, no panel, just blackness. Any thoughts on what I've done wrong? I've tried this in many of the default P3D aircraft (i.e.- mooney bravo, baron, bonanza and maule) and all have same issue. I can get radio stack and GPS panels to open just fine. just can't get main instrument panel. would appreciate any thoughts! Thanks!

January 26, 201412 yr Author ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ P3-D version? Add-ons? When was the last time it worked properly? -what have you installed or uninstalled or tweaked since that time? Help us help you and be more detailed with your questions... Chas Sorry, I'm using P3D V2.0. I don't remember the 2D instrument panels ever working. I have only been using the sim for a couple of weeks as I am building my own cockpit (I haven't been able to actually get in and use the sim too much since my setup is in transition to the cockpit). I was just trying to do some experimenting with different views and wanted to mess with the 2D instrument panels. I have the base P3D installed, along with REX Essentials plus overdrive and just finished following the instructions found on AirDailyX blog regarding creating a symbolic link in order to install ORBx scenery. I then installed ORBx PNW. I've also installed A2A Accufeel. I believe those are the only addons I have installed. the contents of my mooney_bravo\panel directory is as follows: compass.bmp mooney_background.bmp mooney_background_night.bmp Mooney_Panel_Decals.bmp PANEL.CFG upper_640.bmp upper_640_night.bmp upper_1024.bmp upper_bmp_night.bmp Thanks for any thoughts.
January 26, 201412 yr Author I've had some more time to fiddle around with it. I am currently running a 3 screen setup using NVIDIA Surround. It appears that if I drop out to windowed mode, and shrink the window down to a single screen, the 2D cockpit will appear when I click the button to turn it on. It will stay there even if I stretch the window back to fill the 3 screens. however, if the window is already stretched to fill 3 screens prior to my turning the 2D cockpit on, I will get the black empty space with no panel showing. The 2D panel will never show when I'm in full screen mode. of course, I haven't been able to try switching back to full screen mode after I've got the 2D panel to display in windowed mode, because of the black screen bug. so, it looks like I might be fighting with a bug, just didn't know if this particular one had shown up for anyone else yet.

January 26, 201412 yr Ok, Looks like you are using the wrong camera to bring up the 2D cockpit. I use EZdok so things are little different. Start P3D. Load Mooney tell me from there what you do or click on to get 2D cockpit. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
January 26, 201412 yr Author Sure! So, when I load into the sim, I load the mooney (or any aircraft for that matter) which defaults to the 3d cockpit. I then click on Views-View mode-cockpit-cockpit to get to the standard cockpit view. Mine defaults to the full outside view at that point, no 2d panels at all. I will then click on views - instrument panel - main panel which is when the outside scenery view will squish up to about the top 1/3 of the screen, and I'm left with a big black box below the scenery view where I assume the panel is supposed to be, just no panel. However, I'm not sure if you saw my small update above regarding the differences I'm seeing whether I'm in full screen (triple monitor widescreen via nvidia surround) or in windowed mode. When I just got into the sim via a remote desktop in order to make sure I was giving you the correct menu buttons I click, the remote view (which was forced into a single monitor windowed mode because of the remote desktop software i'm using) worked just fine. When I clicked on views - view mode - cockpit - cockpit I was presented with what I would expect, a 2d instrument panel view at the bottom and the outside scenery in the upper 1/3rd or so of the screen. it definitely appears to be an issue with my full screen using nvidia surround with 3 monitors. I was just able to switch my remote screen to "full screen" mode, and it retained the 2d panel. the problem seems to appear when I am trying to enable the 2d instrument panel when the display spans across 3 full screens.
January 26, 201412 yr Ok, In you first post you did not mention "it definitely appears to be an issue with my full screen using nvidia surround with 3 monitors" and other advanced setups. I was assuming you had basically a default setup / software / monitor etc. The problem is with your custom setup. Someone with your type of Home Cockpit setup/software/ will need to help out. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
January 26, 201412 yr Author my cockpit is nothing more than some 2x4s and plywood. so, it seems the only thing different I'm using is nvidia surround. If someone else out there is running with nvidia surround I'd be curious to know if you're having the same issue with the 2d instrument panels in full screen mode. although since the time I originally posted my question, I seem to have figured out where the issue is, and possibly how to work around it for the time being. at this point, it might just be useful to find out if anyone else is experiencing this problem using nvidia surround, or even any triple screen wide resolution setup (my resolution is set to 5760x1080). if this is a bug, it would be nice to get it on the list of things that might need to be addressed
January 27, 201412 yr I have the same triple monitor setup and nvidia surround. I have the same exact problem you have. Only installed FTX GLOBAL, FS Global 2010 and A2A C172. Had 2D panel issues with FSX and triple monitors as well. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
January 28, 201412 yr Author argh, so sounds like a bug that might have been around for a long while. It's problematic because I was hoping to set my wide screen 3 monitors to the full outside scenery view, and then undock the instrument panel view and try to throw that over to a 4th monitor that I'll set up behind my yoke in my instrument console. but if I can't get the instrument panel to open, that dashes all my hopes. maybe I can find a way to trick it with the work around I found earlier by going into windowed mode and getting the panel to show up that way. I'll mess with it and see if I can get it to work. if so, perhaps I'll save it as a default flight and see if it sticks. Thanks for the feedback
January 29, 201412 yr I have the same issue with my three-screen-setup. Im using AMD eyefinity. So it has nothing to do with particular hardware or specific addon, as far as I can see. My "solution" is to set the width of the 2D-panel to a approx a third (1/3) of the original width in the panel.cfg. Thous it gets not "overstreched" in the first place and should show up. For some reasons P3D2 has a problem to draw a panel, when the with is 1.0, aka the full width of the monitor. At least so it seems to me... Hope this helps Marcel
