February 7, 201412 yr Hi, has anyone tried this: http://www.avsimrus.com/f/fs2004-aircrafts-40/ilyushin-il-76md-il-78m-beta-2014-52774.html Is it comparable to each the Varnavsky and the Kulikov (Monumentum) models? I'd be interested in some experiences... Thanks and regards, Harald Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
February 7, 201412 yr Yeah it has a VC which is quite good. (But remember it's essentially an Alpha take-it-as-you-find-it release: the wheels turn the wrong way etc.) You need to delete/rename the radio gauge otherwise it crashes the sim. There's a nice sound file on the site somewhere, too.
February 7, 201412 yr Author Wheels turn the wrong way? Gauges crashing the sim? Hm... I should wait until it's a little bit more finished. I have to confess that I had my problems with Vlad Zhigulskys models. They look superb and have many nice effects (ZiL and Ural trucks), but their handling needs familiarization regarding button assignment etc. Maybe Edetroit comes in and tells us his experience. As far as I know he uses the Monumentum model. As an experienced Il-76 captain, he should know why. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
February 7, 201412 yr Hello Harald, I have not tried the IL-76MD and IL-78M beta and I don't think I will. I do use the Monumentum IL-76TD and IL-76TD90VD models…. BUT These are not the models that are available. When I first downloaded Monumentum's model I noticed many mistakes with it ….engines starting in reverse order etc etc. A patch was issued correcting some of them but not all. One very important factor is the slats/flaps settings on the IL-76. So I contacted Ilya and said could I help to fix the animation problems i.e. separating slats from flaps, correct spoiler animation for reversers …also to use xml animation codes instead of stock animation codes (smooth animation). We got so far and then all came to a halt for some reason. So I am the only one that I know of who has a half decent working IL-76 model. It is up to Ilya to upload what he has ...and we have seen no sign of the IL-76TD-90VD yet. It is one thing to model an aircraft, another to texture it correctly. Learning XML animation for models I would say is essential these days plus it opens up a huge new world of possibilities. Researching how the aircraft actually works i.e. flaps/slats settings. I know VITAMIN is sitting on a very nice IL-96 model which will probably never see the light of day. (certainly no IL-96 modeller yet knows what a flaperon is) Monumentum's IL-76 is also gorgeous IMHO but just needs some fine tuning. (texture mapping could be better and XML animation) All of which could take less than 1 day. :( My FS Videos
February 7, 201412 yr Author Thanks Edetroit, your post is very informative. As I have not even basic skills in building an animated plane model I will try the Varnavskiy and the Monumentum models, look if I like them "as they are" and fly them or delete them. Interesting to hear about an ongoing Il-96 project. Best regards! Harald Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
