February 10, 201412 yr Hey All, I've been doing some Q400 flying recently and really enjoying my experience, attention to detail is amazing -- I'm still very much learning how to flying the aircraft, probably the most difficult aircraft I've ever tried to land but I think that's just me needing to practice and learn more. Now the only item I can't seem to figure out is the Cabin Pressure ... I've made adjustments to keep it below 0.5 difference in pressure Out to In but regardless of what I do, at a specific altitude I will always get Cabin Pressure red warning light and I can't seem to figure out how to not make that happen? Any hints/suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Rob.
February 11, 201412 yr are your bleed s/ws turned on he bleed switches should be sel ected OFF if a reduced power takeoff is planned , othe rwise the bleeds can be left ON . The Bleed Flow Mode in this case has to be selected to MIN. The bleed should be th e n selected back to ON after takeoff as soon as practical. Please, note that the bleeds must be ON for the structural antiice to operate. It is a standard practice to keep the bleeds OFF for landing, to increase the engine performance in a case of a possib le Go Around. The Recirculation Fan switch is normally always left in the RECIRC position. Sudden appearance of the cabin pressure warning light will most likely indicate the bleed selectors have been left OFF, or the system left in the DUMP mod Taken from the manual that came with the q400 page 4.2 in more detail interesting reading the manual :0 I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
February 11, 201412 yr Yes Pete is correct, I did the same thing first few flights, forgot to turn them on.
February 11, 201412 yr Sudden appearance of the cabin pressure warning light will most likely indicatethe bleed selectors have been left OFF, or the system left in the DUMP mod Hmmm ... ok, it appears I am doing everything correctly. Cabin Pressure light comes on after takeoff and usually right around transition altitude ... I do keep the bleeds on because I'm flying cold weather and need the de-ice system working. I typically fly FL240 or FL250 enroute. I am keeping the Inside/Outside pressure delta to less than 0.5. I do leave the "Boot Air" switch in "Norm" ... should this be in "ISO"? Cheers, Rob.
February 12, 201412 yr Make sure the forward outflow valve is closed, and packs are set to Auto. Boot air can stay at normal. A note about the forward outflow valve from Aviator327 on the Majestic forum. Regarding Q300 but applies to the Q400 as well. "...in the RW opening the Fwd outflow valve was part of the Emergency checklist for a known source of fire or smoke on the flight deck. It would assist in getting rid of the smoke.Another time that the Fwd Outflow Valve would be open is for Ram Air Ventilation in the event that both bleeds must be selected off. This would allow air into the rear equipment bay and the cabin." regards, C.
