Radar Contact on 2nd Computer?

Featured Replies

I've rebuilt my computer and now am running FSX rather than FS9 (it's about time :P).  Before I install RC on my laptop (client), I want to be sure that RC uses WideFS with FSX rather than SimConnect.  Is that the case?  I ask because I have not yet been able to figure out the SimConnect configuration to get it working on the network.  FSUIPC and WideFS is a breeze.  Thanks for the answer.

Chuck,

If I may, I used this video to set up networking for FSX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOkJ0U9eHIY . I am also new to FSX (13 years of MS train Sim), and Pete's video really helped quite a bit.

Cheers!

Hi Chuck,

Here's an extract of RC4's User Manual which confirms that RC4 uses WideFS:

"NOTE  : If you are running RC on a WideFS configured machine, please read:

The file Makerwys.exe should be located in the main Flight Simulator folder. Run

it and it creates a file r4.csv in the main Flight Simulator folder that contains the runway

information which RC needs for all the active sceneries in your scenery.cfg file.

Now run RC on the WideFS machine."

I've been using RC4 for years in a networked configuration without experiencing any issue.

Regards,

fsuipc4 is the bridge to SimConnect on the host.  WideFS will take you to the host fsuipc4 which will take care of RC (and other fsuipc clients).

Just make sure that you have the correct network path to the host on the wideFS setup. In RC be sure for paths you use the host path for makerws and the paths set within RC. Be sure you have network permissions to allow your client pc.

I'm not set up for a net but this pinned topic will help with display settings:

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/272752-fsuipc-widefs-showtext-settings-for-rc-43/

If you search this forum you'll find the network path settings examples.

Also note that when using this setup, before you start RC to run a scenery rebuild, first run makerwys.exe directly in your FS folder. Then on your client, start RC and run the scenery rebuild, answer Yes to the WideFS caution, then continue for the rest of the processing by RC. (This copies and processes files from host to the RC\data folder on the client.)

Be sure to read the WideFS and fsuipc user guides. Use the shared folder name I believe on the client as I recall or you might be able to use the network name for the host in the path so you can get to your documents folder for FS plans and FS .flt and .wx files. In other words share the host FS folder and the Flight Simulator X folder on your host.

Adjust your host and lient antivirus apps as needed. See the pinned topic on this.
