January 30, 200521 yr What ZOOM setting should one use in the cockpit for flying in a medium and large jetliner in FS9? I have a range of settings in various models, like the whole Boeing series, that range from 0.57 to 1.00 and they have considerably different visual/optical effects and definitely influence lining up for landing, etc. But I don't know what ZOOM factor is most realistic. Also, where do you go in the aircraft file(s) to change the cockpit zoom factor?Any suggestions/advice gratefully received, thanks.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
January 31, 200521 yr I use 0.80 for all my views. I find this a compromise between the unrealistic 1.00 zoom and zooming out too much, making the view unrealistic as well.Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. Respice, lector: In nihil ab nihilo quam cito recidimus.
January 31, 200521 yr Depends on the model. Some are modelled to different scales (so too large or too small) making different zoom levels and/or eyepoint settings necessary.I generally use 0.75 for most aircraft at all times.
January 31, 200521 yr Author I stay with zoom 1.0, mainly because of performance reasons. The farer you zoom out, the worse the performance is (just watch your fps counter), the more stutters you get.Wolfgang
February 1, 200521 yr Aha, OK, interesting....Thanks for all replies.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
February 1, 200521 yr Everything I fly, from helicopters, to heavies, to GA...I fly all of it at:0.50Why? Just because it looks right to me. Oh, and I get no stutters from it, and I'm using a Pentium-3!
February 2, 200521 yr I like .70 for front, left front, right front, and .60 for side views on back.Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. February 2, 200521 yr I think 0.75 looks very good for most VC's. You see a spread of instruments and get a nice view of outside.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
