March 16, 201412 yr Author Specifically, dxgi.dll and d3dx10_34.dll that are included with the SFX distro. Removing these removes the SFX injection and restores default DX10 behavior. BTW, what do you make of the shadows shown here? They look constructed of Duplo blocks Is this a bias tweak I need? http://btfy.me/4wfx3c
March 16, 201412 yr Commercial Member d3dx10_34.dll is one of my libraries - so you have uninstalled DX10SF. I would suggest uninstalling the DX10SF libraries, removing the dxgi.dll then check that the shadow are there (this is default FSX) Then install the DX10SF libraries but not DXGI.dll and test me what occurs - I think that there must be an issue with one ofthe shader header files My FSX Analysis Blog
March 16, 201412 yr Author d3dx10_34.dll is one of my libraries - so you have uninstalled DX10SF. Lol. I'm creating a real dutch boy over here OK...so d3dx10_34 in, dxgi out. OK, so things actually seem sane once more...sans SweetFX, of course. The shadows are back, the duplo blocks are gone, and "Force VC Walls" actually does something sensible now. I think we're mostly golden now. Thank you. So, to your knowledge, SFX and DX10SF won't play well together?
March 16, 201412 yr Commercial Member My belief is it works fine. In Paul's document he suggests that it's possible for the sweetfx settings file to get corrupted, that could cause issues. So check that. My FSX Analysis Blog
March 17, 201412 yr Author Yeah, I'm not sure what the dealio is. I reinstalled SFX and blew away the settings file, and I still get the disappearing DX10 Preview checkbox when I run; DX10SF doesn't work for all the reasons above. Not sure what Paul's secret sauce is. Oh well, it didn't really add all that much apart from a bit of extra vibrance and contrast.
March 17, 201412 yr Author In other news, is there any way to increase the fidelity of the VC cockpit shadows so they look as crisp and clean as the exterior ones?
March 17, 201412 yr Commercial Member no not really. Shadows look better the further away they are - the outside shadows are calculated in exactly the same way. HD shadows will improve for large jets with small cockpits. Darkening shadows make any artifacts more visible. Oh and turning the engine(s) off will stop shadows jiggling about. My FSX Analysis Blog
