March 15, 201412 yr Hi Steve, I'm having a problem with the latest release of the DX10 Scenery Fixer (2.0 build 42). Since upgrading, I'm noticing that my interior VC shadows are notably absent on stock and commercial aircraft (including ones with MDL's previously modified by the toolkit to have them). The exterior shading and shadow casting looks phenomenal, but the only kind of lighting dynamic I see on the interior are changes to ambient/diffuse lighting and environment mapping/reflections. Gone are the geometries associated with the shadows cast by the VC cockpit itself (i.e. the window frame no longer casts a distinctive shadow). I've twiddled a few options but to no avail. Hoping you might point me in a direction. Here's what I had set presently: Improved Shadows: on Toned Shadows: on HD Jet Shadows: on Force VC Walls: off Reduce Falloff with Angle: on Reduce Fade in Poor Visibility: on Enable Shadow Boost: on Small Bias: 0.01 Large Bias: 0.03 Shadow Boost: 10% Contrast Boost: 10% Thanks for any help or insight you can offer. J

March 15, 201412 yr Commercial Member No I mean in fsx, is the dx10 preview box there, even though the dx10 entry is set in fsx.cfg if there is any problem fsx falls back to dx9 when it loads My FSX Analysis Blog
March 15, 201412 yr Author Ah. That might explain my poopy performance over the past several days. No, the checkbox is AWOL. What do I do to resurrect it? Kill the shader cache? Is this SweetFX badness (it was working before?) ---- UPDATE ---- It is SweetFX badness. Blarg. I saw something in the Build 38 release notes about SFX injection, but nothing in the documentation about it. So is there a combination of SweetFX and DX10 Fixer that plays nicely?
March 15, 201412 yr Commercial Member I experimented with it, but it was too complicated. Check Paul's guide I am sure it covers sweetfx, I know that he he uses it. My FSX Analysis Blog

March 16, 201412 yr Same problem here. No distinct shadows in VC. DX10 button is visible and switched on. Don't have sweetfx. Currently I have activated VC shadows in Carenado C208 and Realair Duke V2. But it seems not to work. Any ideas? March 16, 201412 yr Commercial Member Have you ticked aircraft casts shadows on itself? The best way to test this is to uninstall dx10sf libraries so you are just using default dx10 preview. Then load the default Cessna and look for vc shadows. If this doesn't work then something is wrong with your setup. Then reinstall the dx10sf libraries and test again. Then test with other aircraft, some may work some may not. Provided you get the permission of the copyright holder of the aircraft model you may then try setting the bit flag for vc shadows in the header using the unsupported tool provided. Some aircraft will gain shadows, some will still not, setting force vc walls may improve shadows for some aircraft, but there will always be some for which shadows never work. My FSX Analysis Blog
March 16, 201412 yr Here we are. Distinct shadows back again: "Have you ticked aircraft casts shadows on itself?" No, I had not. Stupid me! Sometimes it is much too simple ... March 16, 201412 yr Author I experimented with it, but it was too complicated. Check Paul's guide I am sure it covers sweetfx, I know that he he uses it. I guess my confusion is that VC shadows were working at one point with SweetFX, but no more. It's unclear now what changed and when. If the DX10 Preview box is missing with SweetFX installed, does that suggest I running in DX9 mode? Paul, any thoughts on this?
March 16, 201412 yr Commercial Member Yes definitely you are running in DX9 mode. I suggest back to basics, uninstall DX10SF libraries so it isn't in the equation. then see if you get the DX10 preview box or not. I take it you haven't edited any shader sources in any way? My FSX Analysis Blog
March 16, 201412 yr Author Yes, it's definitely SweetFX that is inhibiting the VC shadows. I remove the libraries, the DX10 checkbox returns as do the VC shadows. I just don't quite know why it just started giving me grief. Does everyone have this problem? Maybe I need a newer rev. of SFX?
