March 18, 201412 yr From what I've read on teh interwebs, G-BBYE was built in 1949, 1950 or 1953, take your pick! I do know that in 1994 she suffered a collapsed undercarriage leg whilst landing in a 16knt crosswind and subsequently groundlooped! Thankfully no one was hurt although she needed a bit more than a new coat of paint! The cause of the failure was shot-peening which weakened the tensile outer layer of the spring. Moral? Use wet 'n' dry to rub down prior to painting. -_- Anyway, she as good as gold now. Real G-BBYE; My results: On AVSIM nowish. The World is divided into two groups. March 19, 201412 yr Nice one Ron, looks great. Interesting about the shot peening being the cause of the failure..... in my line of work it's used to make components more resistant to tensile stress! Nick
March 19, 201412 yr Author I was just quoting from the accident report supplementary. Apparently shot peening reduced the thickness of the tensile layer by 50%. Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger! The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
