Navdata is a database of all the waypoints, navigation aids and airways that are defined for aviation use. It's updated on a 28 day cycle. It provides the data that all route planning programs use and that the FMS uses to navigate. Installing a new navdata cycle keeps your simulator up do date with real world changes. You don't need to buy navdata to create flight plans. The NGX comes with a set of navdata, but it will be a rather out of date by now. Simbrief also has a default navdata set which it uses. However to be sure everything works and is current you should buy at least one new cycle of navdata. That can be used for all your FSX addons too.

Aerosoft NavdataPro is a more expensive version of the same thing provided by Navigraph. Navigraph data is not as complete but will be good enough for sim use. Look at the pricing schedules for both before deciding which to buy. To begin with you only need to buy one cycle and install that in the PMDG navdata folder and assign it to simbrief so it will use that data cycle. Then every route you plan will be 100% compatible with the NGX.

Some simmers buy every cycle update. That is the ideal, but it isn't necessary to do that. I only buy an update every few months or so.

I have readed all the last 3 posts, thanks for help. I think about to buy one of these, the navdatapro looks most professional for me. But what will i need to do. First make route with simbrief or an flightplanmaker like fsc and export the rte to the navdatapro? And i just have to click once on mouse and the program will set the navdata for me?

when you install your PMDG you get some folders added to FSX:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\PMDG\NAVDATA

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\PMDG\SIDSTARS

When you get NavDataPro or Navigraph for the PMDG, these programs output a current NavData set to \NAVDATA and \SIDSTARS. This NavData set is an AIRAC Cycle, lets say cycle 1401.

At the same time you must also download the cycle 1401 for your *flight planner* so that the planner makes plans from the same cycle as the PMDG navigation is using.

OK we did a flight plan with FSC. And its a very strange way to save the flightplan. When we clicking on save as we get a menu with the addons we want to save it for. We marked PMDG checkbox. And its jus saving a pln in fsx folder?
