March 23, 201412 yr Hi folks Guys, I need to modify the wind sound to be starts at certain speed or/and certain altitude. In the normal situation inside the fsx, the wind sound starts at nearly 70 or 80 knots and this is very unrealistic in my cockpit. Could anyone tells or help me to make the wind sound starts at certain & specific speeds (or even in certain altitude). The wind sound is one of the most important effects in my cockpit, so I hope to find the way to modifying it as I mentioned above. Thx
March 24, 201412 yr Author Hello guys I have try to modified it my self and I do that. For those needs to modified it, go to the sound folder inside ur aircraft, open by notepad and scroll down to wind sound section. U will found minimum speed_100.00 maximum speed_320.00 This values means the speeds that the sound will start at. Change this values at what speed u need the wind sound starts and then it work fine like u want. Thx
March 24, 201412 yr Commercial Member I always set minimum speed to 100 and maximum to 280. But it is also important to set minimum and maximum volumes. In my case minimum volume is 0, maximum between 9000 and 10000, it depends on airplane, cockpit noise and relative volume of wind.wav. With these values you will barely hear any wind noise on final approach (130-140kt), and no wind noise at all at 100kts/when landed. March 24, 201412 yr I wouldn't even try messing with those values unless your trying to learn how it works? If it were me I'd just buy Air to Air Simulation's AccuFeel and set a few sliders and be done with it. It does a real good job with wind noises not only for VNE but also for things like gear and flap drag etc. Totally worth the small price and you can find a lot of reviews on it if you need more info... http://secure.simmarket.com/a2a-simulations-accu-feel-v2-global-fsx-enhancement.phtml RE Thomason Jr.
March 24, 201412 yr Commercial Member I always disable AccuFeel wind sound when flying jetliners, because it doesn't sounds realistic in that type of airplane. For any other type smaller type of plane, especially single prop, I delete wind.wav from sound.cfg, and let AccuFeel to do its job with wind sound. Sorry I didn't understood your question, can you write in detail what exactly you want to know? March 27, 201412 yr Author Sorry I didn't understood your question, can you write in detail what exactly you want to know? Hi pe11e Is the minimum and maximum volumes means the wind volume u hear at the estimated speeds at which the wind sound starts ?
March 27, 201412 yr Commercial Member So, if you have something like this:minimum speed=100 maximum speed=280 minimum volume=0 maximum volume=10000 means that at 100kts wind sound will be silent because the volume at that speed is minimum - 0. At 280kts the volume of the wind will be maximum, or 10000, which is the highest value for volume in sound.cfg files. If it's too loud you can put 9000 and tweak a bit. If you find wind volume too loud or quiet on final approach where the speed are around 130-140kts (with airliners), you can edit minimum speed value. Put 120 or more if you want a completely quiet wind on landing, or put 80 if you want some wind on landing. I found a sweetspot with above values (100kts volume 0).
