Getting more realistic Electronic Checklist on the 777 and Flap setting response times

Featured Replies

Hello, My name is Patrick Mollette and I just wanted to mention a couple things I really hope to see in the near future to add noticeable realism to the 777. First off, The Electronic Checklist. I have been watching videos (and i guess you could say hanging out in the Delta Air Lines 777 simulator), and the electronic checklist is almost completely different than what is in the PMDG 777. Their are a lot more added items and even more checklist (for normal operations) then what is currently included. Now I realize that this is quite a chore to redesign and add Checklist for each airline, but could you guys not do it for at least a few of the big 777 airlines. I.E. Delta, emirates, British Airways, United, and American? Just a thought, because this would add a huge amount of realism to the 777, and makes it better than just clicking checklist and it already being done.

One more item is the Flap setting response time (if i worded that correctly). When you select a flap setting in the 777 the response from the time you set it to a change on the Display is quicker in real life than in the PMDG 777. I have noticed this first-hand. The time is not far off, but it is still noticeable. That is one thing that has sort of bugged me, and even a real 777 Flight instructor agrees.

I am really not trying to be one of those people who come in here just to rant about something I do not know anything about. I have made 100% sure that I at least double checked what I was about to say vs. what I noticed in Real-life. So what i am asking is... Will any of these things I mentioned be brought up or thought about for future projects/Service packs with the 777?

Regards,

Correct.  The airlines can customize their ECLs.  In order to do this on the PMDG 777, they'd have to develop some type of scripting for the end user.  That would then open the whole thing up to a ton of other problems (mainly support for those who aren't skilled enough to pull it off).  That's the short version.  You can find the official version from either RSR or Ryan by searching.

You might be able to make the argument to have it added into the INIs, but that all depends on somehow getting the information.

Yet the entire Tech Team - that is also comprised of rated pilots - thinks it's fine...

Bring your sources when you submit a ticket.  PMDG has theirs, which comes from tech specs from Boeing directly.  Using your own observations in a simulator, and videos isn't going to cut it, I'd imagine.

Observations of the flap response coming from a simulator... Yeah.

So I guess PMDG has to model after simulators instead of the real plane.

Okay.

I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.

I suppose the case could be made for making something like 3 or 4 sets, maybe modelled after major operators... but I hardly think it would be worth it financially.

That would be my thought.  In the end, it's a checklist.  I used to be the hardcore "simmer" type, where I felt like something is wrong if the BOW didn't match up with the particular operator's BOW, or seat layout was different, or it didn't have the exact equipment.

...and then I grew up and flew a bunch of planes and noticed how different everything truly is.  Granted, I fly aircraft that aren't part of a standardized fleet, but so do we.  Sure, it's the same plane, and someone might only fly it in a DAL scheme, but everyone using it is going to be using different operators (or even a fake one).  Try catering to that audience, and you'd never finish development.

It's a checklist.  The one in the plane gets the job done.  It's generic, but it's all that's needed.  If you need extra items, Microsoft Word could probably help.
