Problems with tutorial #1 take off

Featured Replies

I try to take off according to the tutorial #1 ( Gatwick to Amsterdam ) but without success.

The tutorials claims to smoothly rotate ( around 2 to 3 degrees per sec ) toward a goal of

15 degrees.Follow the flight director command bar to maintain V2 + 20 knots.

All data are exactly as tutorial #2 recommends. ( Load,PerfInit etc )

I tried as follows :

 a) Rotate smoothly but without exceeding 15 degrees.

Result: the speed rapidly exceeds V2 + 20 knots ( 158 knots ) and increases up to 190 knots and then

                  descends.

 b) When trying to maintain a speed of 158 knots I have to increase towards 30 degrees !

How are you guys doing with the take off ?

What does the trick ?

Is anything wrong in my settings ?

Zero Fuel Weight, Fuel Weight, any derated thrust exactly as in the tutorial? (Like in "exactly"?)

Yes,but I will double check. In any case, did you ever fly that tutorial ? And how did it go ?

It seems to me you are a bit too light. It's common to have to go a bit over 20 degrees on departure on short flights, but 30 is way too much.

Also I think you might be rotating too slowly seeing as you mention getting the speed up to 190, unless that is in the case you keep at 15 degrees pitch (wrong technique).

You go for approx 15 degrees in initial rotation (1st phase of takeoff), you then use F/D as you climb out (2nd phase). F/D is not suitable for directing rotation, that is why your initial arm is for an airbitrary number. I use 10 in 800, because, frankly, I am a bit scared of tailstrikes, then after positive rate I continue to follow F/D
