Removing Unwanted Views

Featured Replies

Hello:

New the FSX and PMDG 777 so forgive me if I didn't find a older topic about this.

I want to get rid of a few views when pressing A and shift+A in the PMDG 777. Is this possible and if so, how? I would like to be able to go directly to the overhead and back to the left seat and skip the FO's side and upper overhead. I know you can right click this but that is kind of annoying to have to do all the time (especially with the FSX FPS mouse bug). I would much rather have a simple button push.

Thanks,
Gary

I think it's possible by altering the Panel.CFG, because it has defined camera views in it.  As for how to do that, I haven't a clue (I haven't looked at most of the CFG files since FS2004).  Hopefully someone here might be able to help.

Backup your aircraft.cfg(s), located:

Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\PMDG 777-200LR

and

Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\PMDG 777F

You'll then find the camera definitions contained within. Edit with notepad or equivalent, removing any unwanted [CameraDefinition.X] sections in their entirety. Renumber the remainder in sequence. You'll obviously need to do this for both the LR and F if you fly both.

Here is an excellent resource for customizing your cameras as needed.

Awesome - thanks Brian.  I guess I'm showing my age and lack of knowledge by my earlier answer that it was in the panel.cfg.  Glad you know what you're doing!

No worries...the only reason any of it is fresh in my head is that not too long ago I got fed up with all of the available camera control addons, and decided to figure out how to use the native camera system to it's full potential.

In all honesty, the only thing you can't do with the native cameras is DHM, which...often causes more trouble than it's worth anyway. With 10 slots for camera hotkeys available, setting up cameras for very quick switching is easy, and once you have a basic set of cameras that work for you, they can be transferred from aircraft to aircraft with only minimal editing.

Just wish I'd have known all of that before spending money on the other "solutions"

The following are what I use for the 777, note that I have also edited the main Cameras.cfg to remove the default hotkey reservations there:

- Thanks so much for the information you've provided. Like yourself, I've become disillusioned with the more popular camera add-ons. For example, one product insists on using my CH Eclipse Joystick to the default assignments. I've been unable to override or gain forum support. All in all, it just ain't worth it and "back to basics" is sometimes refreshing.

Thanks again.
