Maddog MD80 - Worth $45 USD?

Featured Replies

Anyone have any comments so far about the Lago MD-80?Pretty steep price. I can shell it out if it's unanimous amongst simmers that this is worth the scratch.Look forward to some mini-reviews.BobKMEM

Hold onto your $45.00 for a few more weeks, there is yet no English manual, only Italian. The Flight Management Computer is buggy and only partially functional. On the Lago Web Site a real MD-80 driver has started a list of bugs on performance, the kind of bug that will most likely irritate a lot of buyers of this product that need to be fixed up. On the positive side, Lago seems anxious to please and have acknowledged all problems are being addressed and the manual translated into English. The sounds are great, the external model is fabulous and JetCity will be putting out a ton of liveries... it would seem that this product was released a bit prematurely. I would say that once the FMC is properly patched, buy it then. THe flight dynamics I'm sure are not as big a problem, the plane will be flyable, just not perfected.Randy Jura, KPDX

There are a few other threads worth browsing through about it but yeah, Randy is right. Right now it isn't really flyable. The pitch control is absurdly oversensitive and the FMC is crashy. Those are my two biggest gripes. I do worry about a translated manual a bit. Definitely worth waiting on this one. -- Even though I'm not a turboprop person, I realllly wish I had just gotten the ATR as a new one instead of this. Heck maybe I will anyway.___Josh

Great advice so far. Thanks guys. I've been very quick to wip out the wallet in the past and have been burned a few times. When I saw the price point for this product, I thought it would be prudent to ask a few questions first. I'll snoop around other forums and threads over the next few weeks to see how it progresses. Thanks again.BobKMEM

I used to be the same way: an almost Pavlovian reaction: a new addon comes out, out comes the plastic. Not anymore. I mean, a plane without a manual? #####? Well at least Lago can't say: RTFM! when customers are clueless.ricardo

I think my biggest mistake was "Fly the MD-11" which was pretty much a packaged freeware collection loaded with a cheesy panel. Being unfamiliar with that distributor's products didn't help.I was ultra excited about a commercial MD-11 being released and had it deleted faster than the invoice hit my credit card. Since then, I've grown a little wiser. I did the same with FSCommander (although many love the product), I should have asked a few questions.I also bought the Eurowings ATR about 2 weeks before the Flight1 ATR was released. Doh!There's something about the 2D panel view on the Maddog that is bugging me as well. I can't pinpoint it yet. Is it me or does anyone else think there's something slightly out of perspective.... Hmmm.Bob KMEM

That's why I'll stick with the fully interactive VC on this one... Minus the missing textures it's actually pretty good. I can't wait to see this add-on completed because visually Lago did a decent job. The 2D panel reminds me of Perfect Flight's B717 which I'll kindly pass on.

Now that I have Active Camera, the VC has become a great flying option for me. The Flight1 C152 w/ Active Camera and the VC is just amazing for giving the sense of motion and flying. Good stuff.BobKMEM

Lago did the same with their FSE ...It was not ready when it was released ...Had a lot of bugs ...A lot of promises ...A year later ...???Still promises!Blah Blah Blah -I think Lago has a few BUGS in their businessand they do not have a manual for the companyEven if their MadDog is free, I will not download it.Terblanche

Money aside, the Flight1 ATR is a total gem, absolutely the most fun to fly and no bugs.Randy Jura, KPDX

100% agree!!!!Even better; 1000 o/oo !!!!

Maybe you want to wait and see how these guys do:http://www.mdsuper80.com/They are not doing any advertisement, but the product, although it's also expensive, seems to be of the highest quality.I will surely buy from them once their FMC is ready.Leo
