A tale of two Concords Part 1....

Featured Replies

I'm not going to go much in dept here as I may take Tom up on a full review. After thinking about it maybe a new approach is in order, something along to lines of comparing these two great products. I bought the PSS Concord last night and found some pretty interesting facts seeing as I'm lucky enough to have the Altitude Concord as well. A quick overview of my findings is what I'm going to list here and maybe I'll go more in dept once I've had some substantial time with the PSS bird....EXTERNAL MODEL:PSS has done a great job I think with the external model and I've found no problem with the External textures whatsoever. Maybe the Air France font is a little large but that's about it. The external model looks awesome and projects correctly the Concord's distinctive nose high lower tail profile when sitting on the ground. I must say Altitude didn't quite get this one right. Afterburners look awesome and smoke is realistically projected from the exhaust even when the afterburners aren't lite. I haven't had a chance to look at the PSS Concord at night yet but the daytime impression is second to none....Altitude's Concord looks awesome as well but the way it sits on the runway is not as realistic as PSS's bird. Altitude has an awesome external model that produces vapor off the wings on takeoff and landing. I don't know yet if PSS does this but we have some equal pluses on each bird...I would rate these two add-ons to have the same quality externally, neither one is better than the other.SOUNDS:Hands down PSS is the king here. The PSS bird has some wonderful sounds for their Concord. Perfection is almost in the making here in my book.Altitude's Sound set is terrible. I tried to offer my updates to Altitude but they weren't going for it and have done nothing to address the overly loud sounds in the cockpit. Just because the Concord is a loud bird on the outside doesn't mean passengers need ear protection on the inside. I haven't flown on the Concord but I have never heard reported complaints about internal sounds from passengers. Much like the 727, I would feel it's smooth sailing on the inside as far as the ears are concerned.PSS wins hands down between the two in this department.2D PANEL:PSS in my book has a beautiful 2D panel that I could easily fall in love with if I was a 2D fan. Everything is easy to get to and it's just a joy to look at. A special mention has to go to the Engineer's panel. I have to agree with you guys on this that a

Hey Dillon,Although I'd put myself very much in the "The true enthusiast in my book is going to get much more from the Altitude version" camp and don't entirely agree with some things you said, I'm extremely grateful for your balanced review. (..and BTW, reading between the lines, I hope you take up Toms offer!)AND!! Your modded soundset is exceptional IMHO - thanks for that and long may it reign!Cheers,Paulhttp://www.strontiumdog.plus.com/conc_capt_ba.jpgConcorde Training Captainwww.BAVirtual.co.uk

**Bump**I'm going to bump this thread since a question was raised recently about the SSTSim bird. For the record SSTSim (formerly Altitude) has released a new version of this add-on offered through Flight1's website. The current version has improved on every issue I mentioned above. The improvements are to a point that I uninstalled the PSS version. Sounds are improved, a Virtual Fuel Engineer has been added, and the VC has seen some major updates. I put this add-on right up there with the other excellent offering we have out there like Level-D's 767, PMDG's 747, or DreamFleet's 727. Just like the other add-ons mentioned, you'll come away learning something about the real Concord after spending time with this add-on... For the Hardcore simmer the SSTsim Concord from Flight1 is the add-on to get that'll give you a great idea of what the Concord was really like...

I'll second that Les.Awesome, fantastic and wonderful are words that only go half way to describe what the SSTsim Concorde is like.Even before the PSS version (I bought that too, as well as Dillon) to compare them and the PSS is 'Toffee-Ashtray' when compared with the 'hard-core' SSTsim model. The sounds, the fully clickable VC view (Especially using TrackIR-4) is very, very immersive to the point of addiction to this legendary Aircraft.Dave T. .........On the Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/http://www.captainsim.com/user/dl/c130/c130_captain.gifhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
