February 4, 200521 yr I wish to re-install FS9 on a different HDD partition. I have about twenty flyable addon aircraft (payware and shareware), new shareware sceneries in the Addon Scenery folder, modified airfields (AFCAD221) and many AI aircraft and schedules. I need advice on how best to re-install FS9 so that my addons and AI schedules are preserved. Also, I wish to make sure that my various scenery design programs and other shortcuts can find the new install and not search vainly for the original. I suppose I begin by backing up everything I care about...what next? Thanks. John
February 4, 200521 yr What you should do is backup your addon scenery folder, but for your payware stuff you need to reinstall because there rewrite your registry file. Also, back up the ApplicationMicrosoftFS9 folder. That way your original scenery.cfg and fs9.cfg files can be moved to the new install. You can also change the name of the original Flight simulator 9 to something else. That way the new install won't delete the old folders. Do this for the folder Application DataMicrosoftFS9 also. This will leave the old install in place so you can move any folders into the new install. Don't forget your SceneryworldScenery folder, that's where your traffic.bgl files are.Dave Fisher
February 5, 200521 yr Author Moderator Just copy the entire FS9 structure over to the new partition, and edit one registry key to point to the new location. Why give yourself a headache? ;) Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

February 5, 200521 yr Thanks to all.Bill, please tell me exactly what to do the Registry. The new drive partition is F. Will everything, payware and all, show up on F: if I merely copy the whole caboodle over and change the registry? John
February 5, 200521 yr HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator9.0there you can find the path of your installation and also your CD drive (if that driveletter also happens to change). Most addons will continue to work, some might need to be reconfigured though. And a few have registry entries of their own. Most of those will also be under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE under their manufacturer name (like JustFlight, Jeppesen, etc.).
February 5, 200521 yr Author Moderator Thanks, Jeroen...For those who don't know already, Click Start, Run, and then type "regedit" in the blank box (without quotes, of course). Before making ANY changes, Export the entire Registry to a backup in case you screw something up... ;)Use the Search tool to locate all entries for "Flight Simulator" and edit the path to point to the new hard drive or partition letter.Exit the Registry Editor and reboot your computer. February 6, 200521 yr What would you then change in the registry to get the path to FS to the new drive or partition?
February 6, 200521 yr Author Moderator >What would you then change in the registry to get the path to>FS to the new drive or partition? The current path in the registry for the install of FS9 on my development computer is:C:Documents and SettingsBill LeamingMy DocumentsFS9fs9.exe /FLT:%1If I moved the entire FS9 installation to a drive/partition were it would be the only program, I would simply edit the registry entry to read:D:FS9fs9.exe /FLT:%1It really is that simple... ;) Fr.
