Fsx.cfg Question

Featured Replies

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but when I took a look at my FSX.cfg file tonight,

I have 4 separate DISPLAY entries in one CFG file, not necessarily back to back.

Is this normal or am I able to (or should) delete duplicated entries?

[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti  .0]

Mode=1280x1024x32

AntiAlias=1

TriLinear=1

[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti  .1]

Mode=1024x768x32

[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti  .0.0]

[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti  .0.1]

Hi Nemokin,

Do you have two separate monitors running FSX? You have entries for monitor resolutions of 1280x1024 and 1024x768. if so, your cfg is fine as it is.

If you only have one monitor you can delete the entries with the incorrect resolution.

Duplicate entires are normal if you have been trying out DX10 Mode in which case the DX9 and DX10 entries are differentiated by the 0.0 and 0.1. So leave both of those.

Another option is to simple delete the FSX.cfg and let the sim rebuild it. Back up your old copy just in case.

Just delete the last 3 entries if you have one monitor. There is really no reason to rebuild your config just for that.

That happens once in awhile when changing the video drivers also.

You only need the first two as it appears you have two monitors.  The first entry is for your main monitor.  The second entry is for your second monitor.  If you have DX10, it will probably set up the other two entries.

Whenever you are unsure, just delete those lines, and FSX will make a new entry on the next start.

don't delete the whole cfg file like someone suggested.

Thank you all for valuable advice.

I have one large monitor for FSX and a FMC hardware device by Jetmax which essentially is a second monitor.

I now understand that is the reason for two DISPLAY entries.

I also tested DX10 preview a few nights ago for the first time and I suppose

that is the reason for the duplicated entries.

I've started to add lots of ORBX addons in the past month and started to experience OOM errors

with dinging messages (although FSX has not crashed yet), and I've read that DX10 could

potentially solve my OOM troubles thus my Dx10 preview attempt.
