Must Have -Tuning- for FS 9.1

Featured Replies

My FS 9.1 is relativly fresh installed.I like to know which tunings or fixes for the FS 9.1 are a must to have. I have already installed a cloud fix which reduces the texture size and improves frame rates. I have also installed FS Sky World 2004 (Light Fixes, ?: Could it be that the new landing lights from FS 9.1 are overwritten by FS Sky World)..So far, did I miss some very important stuff?Sorry for my english today...greets from germany,Bj

If you have the cloud replacements, you have the most important fix.Every thing else is "enhancements", not "fixes".Mesh scenery for your favorite areas is a good first step... look for Holger Sandman's scenery as an excellent example.. Columbia River and Bella Coola are both fabulous.FSUIPC is another add-on that makes some things work better and gives you more options.. at some point, you may want to spend $20 for this module. The item most simmers spend money on, is add-on aircraft:www.realairsimulations.com www.flight1.com www.precisionmanuals.comare some of the first sites to visit. Also read the reviews on Avsim for more ideas...Happy flying!BTW... Realairsimulations also has a free replacement for the C172 which might be in the "fix" category..

How can you get the cloud fix? What kind of performance improvement can you expect, and how to they appear when compared to the default clouds? Also, are they tough to install? Thanks,RH

That link is not getting me though. Can anyone else provide the link to these impoved clounds? Thanks,RH

Hi RHYou can find the file here at avsim too.Name is: "cloudfix_v3.zip"RegardsHenrik Korning

Bjorn, Edit Voicepack 3.1 will fix the callsigns of the aircraft and airlines. Most of the default aircraft have had their AIR and CFG files tweaked. Search the libraries. The Kangan 172 is basically a repainted default 172 with more realistic flying behavior. There is a replacement 172 panel that matches the virtual cockpit panel, that is a must install. I would install files and panels that would let you enable the 3 AI planes: pa28_180, dh_dash8_100, and the md_83. There are files to replace the fake AI airline planes (Orbit, etc) with real airline paint jobs and call signs. Replace the default 737 mdl files with r737mdl.zip. Cheers, Bruce Freeburger

Hi. I am interested in trying the higher performance clouds as well on my fresh install of fs9. I am confused as to which set to use. The set cloudsfix v3.zip is done by Brian Selb and the other reduced cloud textures are part of FSW by Chris Willis. Which files should I be looking for, and also, if it is part of FSW, can I install only the reduced textures without installing the entire FS SkyWorld program? Thanks in advance for any info on the clouds fix. Steve J.

Thought I'd try one more time before asking the above question in a separate post. Can anyone help clarify the clouds fix questions in my post directly above? Thanks.

You don't need to download the entire FSskyWorld program to get the reduced textured clouds. They are included in FSSkyWorld 2004, so if you already have it, you don't have to download them again. If you don't have FSSkyWorld, simply go to the fsw website, (fsw.simflight.com) and click on the downloads link. The two files in question are under the "FIX" heading and are called HiFPSv2.zip and HiFPS.zipHiFPSv2.zip offers the best performance with the least detail, whereas HiFPS.zip offers a compromise between detail and performance by giving better performance than default, but better detail than HiFPSv2.For mid to low end systems I reccommend HiFPSv2, as it allowed me to run 100% 3d clouds with real weather and low cloud density with pretty good results (with real weather even low cloud density is pretty dense) on an old NVidia FX5200. When I upgraded my video card to a 6600GT, I went with HiFPS, as it offers an increase in detail and allowed me to really crank up the cloud density to high.

Thanks, Will. Just the information I needed. SteveJ.

Will,Out of interest, before you installed the cloud fixes, what were the symptoms on your machine: low fps or screen freezes? As soon as I go 100% 3d and High density, I freeze andrequire a reboot. My system is a 2.4 gb Athlon and a Radeon 9500 NP.ThanksRichard
