Taxiing and take off run with combat rudder pedals problems

Featured Replies

I recently bought  yoke & quadrant and then combat rudder pedals.

I thought I had everything set up properly, but when trying to take off with some planes I can not keep the plane straight. Also some are difficult to taxi. I have tried both (toe) brake steering and rudder steering. Auto rudder is off.

I have re-calibrated. more than once.

I do think I need to adjust sensitivity and null area for the toe brakes which are sometimes activated with hard rudder pedal movements.

Anyone experience similar problems where you found out the fix?

I've got the Combat Rudder pedals and like them a lot.

If they work for some planes, and not for others.. I'd suggest adjusting

the rudder sensitivity for those planes in the aircraft.cfg file.  If they are too sensitive to rudder inputs, lower the settings:

[flight_tuning]
....
rudder_effectiveness         =1.0

try 0.8..0.6 etc

Also when taxiing, look far ahead, not right in front of the airplane,

or you are going to overcorrect, like when driving an automobile..

Thanks, I will give that a try. I will also adjust brake sensitivity and null area nas I think I am accidentally touching the brake pedals when I move the rudder pedals.

Cheers,

Well, yes that might make a difference

Small movements are typically better.. like a rudder on a boat..

This will help a lot. Follow the instructions closely:

The twist-rudder in my stick broke this week so I was "forced" into a rudder pedal upgrade and had similiar issues. Best thing I did in a while to improve the sim though. It's not easy to change my muscle memory, but they've added a new level of enjoyment to flying. I went with the Cessna pedals, but choosing between that and the combat ones was really hard. If you look at pictures of Boeing rudder pedals, you'll see the "combat" ones look really similiar to them. Good stuff.

My Forum name is a clue

I re-checked my yoke/throttle and pedal 'button' and axis assignments.

Knuckle headed me had the throttle set for engine 1; so of course when flying a 2 or more engined plane it would pull to one side when taxiing or take off run because one engine or more always remained at idle speed.

Now the  taxi and take off run steering (by rudder and toe brakes) is just fine. Happy as a clam now B)

Thanks, I will give that a try. I will also adjust brake sensitivity and null area nas I think I am accidentally touching the brake pedals when I move the rudder pedals.

Cheers,

Rudder pedals, use your heels to steer and toes to stop. Sometimes toes to steer slow taxi, tight turn.
