May 24, 201412 yr I think my R9 290 is on par with a 780 besides I really need 4G VRAM Sure I could make it 30 But I would have to reduce my 20 layers of clouds in ASN to 4, actually I like 12 would have to reduce my ultra setting for LOD would have the reduce AI would have to turn off HRD then why bother get 30 with no candy? 20 in this sim is smooth as silk no stutters at all in windows 8.1, in windows 7 I was getting a lot of stutters so I need more fps however once I try landing at a big airport it goes down the hill to 10, occasionally less :t4013: Have you tried running P3D at 1920x1080 on the SEIKI? How does that look? gb. YSSY. I have not seen 20 FPS in Windows 8.1 but I find it hard to believe it can be smooth as silk or any different than 20 FPS in Wiindows 7 or Xp for that matter. 20 FPS is 20 FPS regardless of O/S no? To each their own and if you prefer all that eye candy and 10 FPS or less over turning down some things then it sounds like you are all set Enjoy the beautiful monitor!! May 24, 201412 yr Author I was having a lot of stutters in Windows 7 for some reason I don't always use 20 layers, I roll back a lot on approach\ :. now that you don't get your scenery reloaded every time like in FSX.... I want the large real estate of a UHD so I have to make compromises. These are just experiences I've had using this monitor. It is a demanding resolution and I am not surprised that my performance is sometimes compromised. Can be a bit disappointing to some. This morning at startup at CYVR I was getting 17 and less fps

It is a demanding resolution and I am not surprised that my performance is sometimes compromised. Can be a bit disappointing to some. This morning at startup at CYVR I was getting 17 and less fps Sorry to bump an older thread, but I'm also curious about the 4K @ 30hz situation. Since I aim to SIM at 30fps locked anyhow, I'm curious...perhaps a 4K @30hz would be the perfect monitor for this (and nothing else, just simming) Am I getting that concept right? I currently always fly locked off at 30fps. Would I enjoy the 4k @ 30hz @ 30fps (assuming no issues getting that performance is the assumption in this question of course) Thank you for any thoughts.
June 6, 201412 yr Author I have seen my counter show 45 fps for a second, but of course the monitor is only delivering 30 30 is fine for flight simming if it is fine with you, you dont notice any flickering. I lock at 22 YOU DO NEED a high end videocard tho....and 4G VRAM, NOT 3, as my usage often exceeds 3G (3300MB at KJFK fsdreamteam) . Was getting 15 to 18 fps taxying there yesterday with 45% AI, lots of clouds and shadows and AG, and ManhattanX(flyby there tho dumped the fps to 11). Naturally, at altitudes above 8000 or so, enroute, I was getting the locked-22- 30 is not as good for Netflix and iTunes movies, but the monitor can quickly revert to 60 @ 1080i I admit the fps are not very high nor consistent, but I am looking forward to the upcoming Devil's Canyon i7-4790K to deliver a consistent 30 But right now I cannot without rolling everything back ti the stone age
June 7, 201412 yr Interesting. So if the hardware could maintain 30fps at 4k would you say this monitor would be a good fit for flight sim it sounds like? I only ever try to achieve 30fps locked anyhow as I like lots of scenery turned up, etc
June 7, 201412 yr Author I am of similar disposition in that I like texture and scenery as opposed to high fps 30 is great, its the new 40 in P3DV22 Myself, I am glad I bought this monitor, the price was LOW even with the sometimes low fps I would stick my neck out and say 24 locked is sufficient for fluid fps although I have my doubts that it would be a constant at some places regardless of CPU+GPU power at 3840 x 2160.... that is the equivalent of running 4 1920x1080 monitors of P3D size wise
June 7, 201412 yr Fascinating. I'm going to try it out and see how it goes. Will report back after the monitor arrives this coming week.

Notice any issues there? Especially when landing and doing maneuvers?
June 7, 201412 yr Author landing ain't all that bad my worst scenarios are in cloud layers near ManhattanX Fascinating.I'm going to try it out and see how it goes. Will report back after the monitor arrives this coming week. Do some googling about the firmware updates you prob should apply and the best settings in its menu. Your PC specs seem to indicate your have a powerful enough computer. good luck...

Really excited for SLI support (official) at some point.
June 8, 201412 yr Author As you can see below, the fps can go above 30, but it is only visually 30 even if it reads 33 in P3D Carenado's B1900 over Long Island at 11000 Another thing about Ultra-HD, I find AA = 2 sufficient I have a titan black I haven't put in yet. Could be very handy, the Titan, OR, it may open a path for OOM to occur On my last flight GPU-Z recorded a max VRAM of 4072MB, my limit with R9-290/4G
June 8, 201412 yr As you can see below, the fps can go above 30, but it is only visually 30 even if it reads 33 in P3D So have you tried to run P3D at 1080 on the 4K monitor? gb. YSSY. June 8, 201412 yr Author No, simply because I am not interested in that resolution, except for movies. It would be good for comparison of performance purposes....if I get the time
June 9, 201412 yr No, simply because I am not interested in that resolution, except for movies. It would be good for comparison of performance purposes....if I get the time Thanks it would be good if you could. The main reason I ask is that I read a 4K monitor review that said it was not possible to output 1080 from a PC game to a 4K screen because of the split screen output the PC has to use . I was hoping this was wrong. gb. YSSY.
