BSOD code 116 with nvlddmkm.sys

Featured Replies

I thought my PC problems were gone today but the darn PC booted again today with a black screen (after the windows logo).

So I let it sit for a while, turned it off, and rebooted.  This time I got a BSOD (from bootup) with code 116 and nvlddmkm.sys as the file erroring....

From my research this appears to be GPU related but could be anything.  I've done no changes to my video card, no driver updates lately etc....  The card itself is clean, and I've reseated it recently and all connections are secure.

This is all from a fresh install of Windows using my old SSD (new one is for FSX).

I am using a second monitor but I unplugged it and am writing this message from my PC but with the single monitor.

Any tips?  Unfortunately I might have to throw money at this problem unless EVGA has a good warranty...

This sometimes happens if you are trying to overclock the video card. If it was factory overclocked, I would suspect something went wrong with the OC.

I found a couple of links where the problem was supposedly solved - http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1936077/bsod-nvlddmkm-sys.html and http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/278829-33-nvlddmkm-error-bsod and http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2118819/bsod-startup-nvlddmkm-sys-artifacts-blue-screen.html.

Unfortunately everything points to a bad video card.

I suspect the mems or mem controller happens to me when extreme OC with very thigt timings and it coruppt gpu driver.

loose the timings and or raise the dram voltage a notch uninstall gpu driver and do a clean gpu driver install.

It never had been a defect GPU for me, but can be wrong in your case.

I remember getting a nvlddmkm.dll (not .sys) BSOD when trying to overclock my old GTX 680. Everytime I messed around with the video card's base clock offset or memory clock offset I got the BSOD. Returned it to the defaults and no problems.
