Trying 10.30 b3....

Featured Replies

Yesterday, 1 day away from my return to work :-( I decided to re-install XP10.30 in my main rig, the one where I installed XP10 for the first time more than 1 yr ago.

I had it installed on a notebook for a few weeks, but used it just twice to test that Sequashto's suggestion of using only the default autogen, with HD mesh and the european objects library and rendering settings near max for the scenery elements.

I did notice quite an improvement from what I remember had been my frames before, That's for sure. The smoothness continues to be one of the main characteristics of the sim, and with it comes the better flight sensation.

I rapidly picked & installed almost all of my add-ons, including v1.6 of FF 777 which I never had tried, as well as the QPAC A320 and the patched C90. No scenery other than the european library and ruscenery are installed under Custom Scenery.

Being able to use TIR5 with XP10 also contributes very positively to the sim experience. For years I thought about buying it, but always refused doing so because it was so specific and expensive... Well, it is certainly worth the investment, although in my case I got it for free!!!!

Looked closely at the clouds rendering, and also confirm the differences, and although I can't say the "wall of fog" is fixed for good, I do acknowledge the differences in cloud rendering, and they're positive for sure.

Whenever I install X-Plane10, it reverts it's flight  control setups to default, including 50% of non-linearity and Art Stab, and truth is that, unless a specific model asks for different settings, this is probably the best setting to start with because it certainly irons some of the unwanted effects we all know about... Anyway, since my main simmer time is now dedicated to combat flight simulators, where I started long ago with DCS World, but ended up with Rise of Flight ( superb!!! ) and IL2 BoS, it's on that front that I am investing and investigating a lot about the flight characteristics and handling of those ww1 and ww2 birds, and surely some of those effects are there, as they should after all, with the only big exception probably being a much more detailed / specific / close to rw data choice of their wing profiles and the fact that on those sims the fuselage and all surfaces exposed to the airflow contribute with their own aerodynamic forces to the final computations of the resulting lift, drag etc... Maybe the new datarefs can bring "new fresh air" to our aircraft models in XP10...

I can't say the news about PMDG coming to X-Plane 10 with their first project weren't one of the reasons I decided to give it a try, specially because I have their work in the best consideration, and believe that it will give new life to this sim. But also the recent news about a new "ATC-robot" for X-Plane 10, the advances in scenery ( World2XP ), and the fact that some issues like the high alt blur might get fixed when 1030 goes final, are tempting ( I just hope I am not mistaken about the high alt blur .... hence the other post in this Forum... )

Should I find the time - very difficult now with almost all of mine sim time slots dedicated to immersive MP combat flight sessions in ROF or IL2 - I really would like to dedicate some time / reading &/ experimentation to the 6 new datarefs that Austin decided to add to XP10's FDM. They could, if masterly used, be the solution for most unwanted details of X-Plane's prop aircraft flight dynamics, and allow for very precise tuning of specific aircraft models, the kind of what is used for the extremely detailed aircraft modules used in IL2 and ROF. I believe that very specific code will alwyas have to be used to model specific features of an aircraft, and the base FDM can't ( at the level used in a PC-based sim ) account for all of those details - that's also, after all, the approach that FSX 3pds are following ( A2A, PMDG, Majestic ), although, I have to confess, the smoothness of flight in XP10 always renders a better overall flight feel than either FSX or P3D can offer, even when using external FDMs like in the Q-400.

Well, let's see what 10.30 final brings - After all this was, in the past and for a good while - my Mantra for XP!0.....

This sounds as if X-Plane would be somewhere near dead ;)

Sometimes it does seem that things have gone quiet, but the PMDG news and 10.30 beta have provided some hope.

Looking forward to the FF 757-200F & -300 which will hopefully manifest themselves one day, and the IXEG 733 which will probably not be out until 2033 but I'm sure the wait will be worth it.

:P

(note to self - must give Pilot2ATC a try this weekend)

I hope Austin's lawsuit is not sucking his funds too much that if effects his cash flow to the developers working on it.

I have so many things to do in my combat sims that I can easily wait for it to happen in XP10

An area I would llike to know how to invest is giving good use to the datarefs Austin made available for 3pds to use in detailed aircraft modeling. My knowledge of aerodynamics and engineering is way too limited though :-/, but I will try to look at it sooner or latter, and even make some experiments...

For the time being, I am enjoying the smoothness of 10.30b3, even with default clouds, and scenery elements at EXTREME!
