June 28, 201411 yr Okay I'm doing a flight from RJTT to VHHH and got my OFP created, and wanted to confirm if this is what I enter into my 777-300's FMC: ZFW = 224.0 FUEL = 34.1 Reserves = Not sure what to put for this OAT Temp for thrust limits = Not sure what to put for this based on looking at my flight plan Flight Level = 360 Cost Index = Not sure what to put here (I'm flying Emirates 777-300ER if that makes a difference) Flaps = Not sure what to use Also where do I go into my FMC to enter the PAX weight and Cargo Weight? Or is that determined when i key in the ZFW? June 29, 201411 yr ZFW = 224.0 FUEL = 34.1 Reserves = Not sure what to put for this OAT Temp for thrust limits = Not sure what to put for this based on looking at my flight plan Flight Level = 360 Cost Index = Not sure what to put here (I'm flying Emirates 777-300ER if that makes a difference) Flaps = Not sure what to use Also where do I go into my FMC to enter the PAX weight and Cargo Weight? Or is that determined when i key in the ZFW? This is what I enter for any 777 aircraft I fly. Are you using the PMDG 777 or the CS777 or the X-Plane 777, neither or all of the above? Reserves should be no higher than 5. OAT Temp - It's not simulated in FSX. Just leave blank. Cost index - not simulated but I enter 100 sometimes 200 sometimes 50. There's a thread in the FSX Forum that discusses cost index values for real time flights and by airline. Flaps - always 15. You can put 5, 15 or whatever. PAX weight; cargo weight are keyed in with the ZFW. I know you are trying to key in the information that is most accurate for a real world flight but if the info is not simulated in FSX/P3D/X-Plane, then I see no reason to waste time trying to collect all of this data and input it in your fmc. June 29, 201411 yr Author I am using X-Plane 10.30 with Flight Factor 777. So you're saying most of the stuff isn't simulated? Wish I knew this before I wasted money on buying expensive add-ons. June 29, 201411 yr Most of the information you need is in the flight plan, some will be operational depending on the airport or company ops. The ZFW is on the flight plan stated at 224. This is the weight that you enter in your FMC provided this is the weight you have loaded. The ZFW is exactly what it say, the weight of the aircraft including passengers and cargo without the fuel. You do not need to load cargo and passengers if you load the ZFW as it does not matter what you are carrying, just how much. Your fuel is where it says 'release' which is just over 34.1 tonnes. I doubt that the ground crew would have loaded exactly that so check the aircraft tank level and enter that. This is used to calculate the V speeds. If you have more fuel then is planned then you will be heavy. The reserve fuel is under 'Final Resv'. This is the the minimum amount of fuel that you are allowed to land with. Basically after loading, taxi to the runway, take off, climb, flight, holding and in case of weather, diversion to another airport, you should still land with this much in your tanks. If you enter this figure in flight then it's time to start shouting a the controller that you need to land urgently. On your flight plan it is 3.26 tonnes. The OAT stands for outside temperature. in colder weather you need more power to take off and as such more fuel. If you have a long runway or a light aircraft, you can make the aircraft lower the power by entering a higher temp. This is an operational item that depends on the airline. You can either leave it blank or raise it up to about 50 degrees dependant on runway length. Your flight level is FL360 as stated on your plan. If you ever have a plan with a step climb then it is always the first altitude that you enter, not including climbing restrictions. The cost index again will depend on the airline, where you are going, the time of day and other factors. Sometimes it will tell you on the plan and say CI, yours does not however it does say fuel bias 100%. I do not know which planning software you use and whether it uses CI for fuel planning. The CI can be any number from 1 to 999, 1 being the slowest but less fuel, 999 being the fastest with more fuel. Normal ops I have seen on the net range from 20 to 50. Flaps on a 777 can be set at either 5,15 or 20. the most common setting is 5, the higher settings can be used for shorter runways, heavier weight or to make it a bit more stable in bad weather. Now I have spent all that time telling you that, I suggest you read the manual for the add-on you are flying and do any tutorial flights, because if you do not know how to loads weights then you have obviously just loaded it up and started to fly. Each aircraft is slightly different and the manuals, especially PMDG, will help a lot with all the systems that you will have to deal with as well as any extra features. Hope that helps.
July 4, 201411 yr Most of the information you need is in the flight plan, some will be operational depending on the airport or company ops. Well stated as well as the rest of your comments. I found this all out when I got several Just Planes videos. Many of the airlines upload the data to the FMC. IMHO, these videos and tutorials are the best for learning how to fly the heavies. PMDG has a great tutorial that came with the product. I see, via Google, that there are some tutorials for the X-Plane 777 too. The 777 tutorials should work for any flight sim platform with very minor changes. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource!
