[Request] British Airways B77W Pack

Featured Replies

If anyone has the time, can they do a package for the liveries for the British Airways 77W fleet.

G-STBA Boeing B777-336ER, Union Flag Livery.

G-STBC, G-STBD, G-STBE Boeing B777-36NER, Union Flag Livery.

G-STBF, G-STBG, G-STBH, G-STBI, G-STBJ, G-STBK and G-STBL Boeing B777-336ER, Union Flag Livery "To Fly to Serve" livery.

And if you really want include G-STBB but this has been done by PMDG.

Would be quite amazing seeing as BA will only have 12 of these aircraft, would be worth doing seeing as it's a small fleet.

Robbie

Hey Robbie,

I'd imagine it would be done by some painter out there, but what an excellent opportunity for someone to jump into the world of aircraft painting.  I have long believed that painting registrations on an existing livery is a great way to get your feet wet, and once you get the hang of it and have your full fleet in your library, you'll want to explore what else you can do.

Like anything else in life, its only hard of you don't try it and apply yourself.  That's what I did, taught myself to paint, and we didn't have any of the dozens of youtube tutorials you have at your disposal now when I was learning!   The motivation? Never having to ask someone to paint a plane for you again, and the satisfaction of seeing your 2d creation in the 3d FS world...its quite exhilarating...akin to nailing your first instrument landing.  And if you get to the point where you want to share your creations, well that has a satisfaction all its own.

Your call....just floating to the suggestion.  I paint on a $29.99 (US) piece of software..all the other painting tools are pretty much free, as is the tons of people helping out there.

And before anyone asks....I can't paint the BA fleet, too busy with other projects.

Hi Steve,

I've often wanted to try but I'm not sure of what to get and basically where to start? I seen on PMDG main website about using paint shop.

I'd appreciate any help / advice you or anyone else is able to offer regarding learning the art of doing these paints  :P

Hey Jason,

Read this post to get a hint on how to get Paintshop for $29.99 (I don't link to other websites on Tom's site).

Other than that, please look at all the tutorials online about how to paint, they are very helpful.

I even created one here to show folks how to create a photo tail. (have to turn your volume up to hear it...new to youtubing)

Anyway, one thing on my todo list is to have a comprehensive series of youtube tutorials on how I paint, but that wont be in the near future just for time constraints.  Being an educator at heart (and professionally as my career), I'm aching to get that project started...but like everything I do, when I jump into that, it will be with both feet, off the high diving board, and I will commit 110% into it.  I know this about myself after spending more than a half century in this brain cavity...so I also know to not get into it now, because it will absorb me at a time when I know I can't give it the commitment it deserves.

You'll find that teaching yourself to paint (as I did) has a satisfying feeling that is hard to beat, and even after 12 years of doing this, I still get that feeling when I learn something new in PaintShop that increases my skill level.

One of my favorite sayings: "Learn to stop, but never stop learning".  Applies here hehe.  I've learned to stop when I want to jump in but know I shouldn't, but I will never stop learning...it is my favorite hobby...and in fact when you think about, it's everyone's favorite hobby!

If you get stuck, there is a painter's forum here on Avsim.  Post there and see if you need help after reviewing youtube videos.  If you don't get help there after a while, link your post to me and I'll see if I can add a tip or two.  I can't say I monitor the forum everyday, but do pop in to see if I can help a struggling painter.

And if I may quote Aristotle, "For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them".  Those Philosophers are so darned smart! :Just Kidding:

Steve,

Thanks for your reply. I've watched the youtube video you made was very helpful and interesting. The paint program you use does look extremely good.

I shall look more into it :)

Great to hear Jason!  Be careful though...it is addictive!  I started out only wanting an Austrian MD-80 from FFX...when they told me to do it myself, I did...12 years and hundreds of paints later...I still get excited when I start a new project.  Its that addictive.    But a very fun, satisfying and fulfilling sub-hobby in our main hobby of flight simulation and aviation in general.
