my question might seem a bit stupid but I do not own a win7 English version and VOX speech reqognition would not work with my machine. I am therefore asking whether it is also possible to use VOX ATC only with pressing buttons and not using voice.

I never use voice. I always rely on the co-pilot. But, You have to configure the voice recognition before using it.

Ah, and you can configure the co-pilot in a way, that he handles all communication?

How can you interfere if you prefer to do so (e.g. ask for a Direct-To, for another flight level, for another approach or runway)?

Do you need voice then for that?

You press 0 and get a option menu. Except for asking for an other level, you have to say it.

Contrary to common belief, it is possible to use English speech recognition on virtually any Windows version, even Chinese edition.

 

If you have Windows 7 Ultimate, go to "Windows Update Panel", download and install the "English US language pack"

 

If you only have the Home Edition, there is a workaround here, using a tool called Vistalizator.

If using Windows 8, it's even better, any edition will do. Just download and install the free English US language pack.

You absolutely can still use Vox without using your voice.  There is an option for letting the First Officer handle all of the communications.

I use FO most of the time, since I am busy enough with voice commands to FS2Crew FO (a different guy

 

remember to set up 'first officer available'  in 'VOXATC Settings',

enter your ATC callsign here also

AND

you seem to have to have an IFR Flightplan loaded, a VFR flightplan is no good

 

or the red/green 'FO' will not show up in the VoxATC window after Initialize

 

by default you enter 'K' the get 'FO' from red to green

you can interrupt FO flow by 'K' again,

 

THO

I often have trouble getting FO alive with 'K'

but with enough 'RightControl' (PressToTalk) pushes FO will come alive

 

Do NOT

dial in your first COMM1 manually as CO, when FO doesnt want to come alive,

 

because this seems to trigger not to be able to get FO alive until after TakeOff,

I you'll have to Voice until then
