August 3, 201411 yr Hi guys, One question: how can be the FMC be set up for a route from North Pole (as an example), when ADIRU is not working? (it has a time of 16666... to align). Setting transponder (XPNDR) to R for SAARU is not working for me, also I didn't get the HDG input in POS INIT in this case. Any ideas or procedure for this kind of operation? Thanks! August 3, 201411 yr The manual States that you should not try to align the adiru above a certain latitude, I don't remember the exact figure but I'm confident the north pole is out of that limit. August 3, 201411 yr Polar operations are covered both in the FCTM (4.16) and FCOM (11.31.8). The FCOM answers your question regarding operating at NPOLE waypoint and with inoperative ADIRU. Regardless, navigation is severely impaired without ADIRU because grid navigation must be used and either the ADIRU provides the data or you manually enter it on the POS INIT page. See the manual. August 4, 201411 yr Author Thanks Dan! I read them but I think they are applied when ADIRU is lost in flight above the mentioned latitudes. But for example, if I want to takeoff from an airport there, so starting from cold&dark, without ADIRU working, but XPNDR to R and HDG to TRUE, I can not set A/T (during takeoff), I can not enter V-speeds (it says invalid data), HDG SEL or LNAV do not work and I can not enter a reference HDG in POS INIT page of the FMC (like in the picture from FCOM).
