PMDG Win 8.1 B737, B777 and Service Packs

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am looking at getting a new PC which looks like it will come with WIn 8.1.

I know that PMDG have stated they provide no support for Win 8.....

I have seen a few posts about the aircraft working with 8.1 but are there any issues?

Would I be better trying to get Win 7 Pro or UIt 64 bit if I can?

Buy yourself a couple of copies of Windows 7 then you will be set for the next 5 years and have a spare copy to put on another machine too if you decide to get a second PC for ancillary applications like ASN and EFB. You won't be able to buy Win7 for much longer so get them while you can. Home premium is more than enough for FSX. Pro and Ultimate are a complete waste of money, you definitely do want to install the 64bit version though. If the new PC has the pro version of Windows 8 installed on it I think you get the option to downgrade to Windows 7, ask your retailer.

Cheers, Andy.

I've been using the 777 with Windows 8.1. The only thing is the joystick issue. Everything else is fine.

Thats rather a big blooming thing though is it not, who wants to use a simulator where their joystick keeps disappearing for no apparent reason, especially when there is still no fix forthcoming from Microsoft more than 18 months after being notified of the issue by numerous people. Do yourself a favour and get rid of that abomination as quick as you can, otherwise you will regret it at some point in the future.

Well lets take it from another stand point. Windows 8.1/8 has better performance than 7(especially when it comes to gaming at least for me). And that fix is quite simple. Use "Don't lose your stick"(which is free) or bind your controls using FSUIPC. Looks like a win/win to me.
