August 26, 201411 yr I've got MCE and RC4 working reasonably well together, but I'm disappointed that "William" doesn't seem to be able to operate the radio to my satisfaction. Is William capable of taking over the radio and talking to ATC autonomously, ie with no action on my part and with me hearing both sides of the radio conversation? Or am I trying to achieve the unachievable? Many thanks for any assistance.
August 26, 201411 yr The only action you have to do is tell him "you have the radio" And he will do it (see the changes on my comm) Problem i have is: I don't hear him replying!!! But DO see the changes, so i know he's there. Have change the sound settings etc, John Cramer
August 26, 201411 yr Author It would appear that you have the same problem as me, ie not hearing co-pilot talking to ATC. But from responses I'm getting over on the MCE forum, it would appear this is possible, if only I (we) knew how!
August 29, 201411 yr Author Eureka ! After delicate vocal chord surgery, I'm pleased to announce that William has a voice. Since nobody on here was prepared to reveal the secret, I've just spent the last 3 days in a hit or miss (mostly miss!) session, running the program and ticking/un-ticking the various options in the menu. I hope it's ok to reveal that "Play Pilot Wavs", "Pilot Auto-reply" and "Tune on Contact" all have to be ticked. Why weren't they ticked previously? Because the manual, in the MCE/RC4 interface section, specifically recommends that these options be un-ticked! No wonder I have little hair left...
August 29, 201411 yr You are referring to the MCE manual, correct? RC4 does not know about MCE. RC4's manual explains the general options clearly. I do not recall its defaults. Pilot Auto-Reply is not recommended since you give up the option to repeat a command if you did not understand it. Another reason is not ack automatically an ATC command immediately because the controllers get impatient if an aircraft does not properly perform immediately. If you are controlling a complex aircraft as well as comms, and if your aircraft delays in performing the command after the ack, the controller will issue a complaint. However, do not delay an ack if about to cross a waypoint for credit as RC will not credit that waypoint and will effectively stall. Tune on contact is recommended so RC uses the frequencies stored in its fixed database. On the RC controller page, com frequency entries you modify are not stored for the next session.
